Daily Diarrhea

In a sign from God that he approves of mullets, Tampa Bay & Barry Melrose picked up their first win last night!  Mike Smith gets the win and very quietly he has only picked up 1 regulation loss in 4 starts and leads the league with a .943 sv%

Edmonton is expected to give Dwayne Roloson his first start of the season tonight, he'll be part of a showcase showdown against Nikolai Khabibulin, as both guys are auditioning for new gigs.

Jakub Voracek had 2 assists last night despite playing less than 11 minutes... imagine what he'd do with some decent ice-time?  So far he's 2+3=5 in 6 games while averaging less than 12 mpg.

Chicago sent Jack Skille down to the AHL and called up Troy Brouwer... how bout that for Quenneville putting his stamp on the team!?!

Atlanta fans have taken to calling their new #1 line, with Bryan Little, Todd White and Ilya Kovalchuk the "Little-White-Russian" line or the "Little Lebowski" line... after Dude's beverage of choice... we prefer "The Line that Will Be Broken Up in the Next 24 Hours".

Lots of semi-meaningless activity on the waiver wire:

  • Tampa Bay decided that Matt Pettinger was the answer and Jason Ward was the question (mark)... so Pets gets a chance to join the Tampa Bay circus.

  • Anaheim put Ken Klee on waivers, which hopefully is part of a plan to eventually get Bobby Ryan back up with the big club.

  • Kyle Wellwood has been to hell and back (well actually Manitoba and back... pun intended) and passed through waivers twice but got into the Vancouver lineup and had a goal and an assist last night.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which will give you a consolidated list of injury status):

  • NJ is guarding Brian Rolston's injury status like its the Caramilk Secret but the latest is that his ankle was severely sprained and is still swollen so he could be out for a while.... if we knew how long, we'd tell ya.

  • Bryan McCabe is "still a couple of weeks away" from returning, says coach Peter DeBoer.

  • Lots of guys are back practicing and itching to play within the next few days:  Zidlicky, Arnott, Higgins, Zetterberg, Souray, Michalek, Campoli, etc.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today... Guns 'n' Roses is back baby!  The band is putting out their first album since 1993's "The Spaghetti Incident?", or more accurately, the band is trying to put out its first decent album since 1991's Use Your Illusion I & II.  We have no interest in their new album but this will inspire us to have GnR going all day long on the iPod.... these guys are so bad ass, any doubt, just check out the picture below... yeah that's right, big hair and scarfs, what you gonna do about it?
