Daily Diarrhea

If you're drafting this week then grab a copy of our updated FREE Fantasy Hockey Rankings and take a look at our Fantasy Hockey Draft Tips to get your strategery all set before D-day... Good Luck.

Alex Auld was oh so close to a shutout yesterday in Sweden and given Gerber being Gerber, looks like Craig Hartsburg will have a decision on his hands heading into Ottawa's home opener vs Detroit on Saturday.  A goalie controversy is probably the last thing that Ottawa needs to start the season but that's what you get when you hitch your wagon to Gerbs.  This was also exhibit A in how quickly a goaltending situation can get sticky, all it takes is 2 games.... so stay close to your waiver wire early in the season cause there will typically be a few goalies that will emerge to takeover #1 jobs.

After getting scratched in game #1, Alex Goligoski was in the lineup in game #2, played 21 minutes, 9:43 on the PP and scored Pittsburgh's only goal.  It could be a wild ride for Goligoski owners as he hasn't cemented his spot in the lineup but should produce when he plays. He might be worth a FA pickup if he's available and see how he does until Ryan Whitney gets back.

Mikhail Grabovski had 3 points yesterday and finished with 5+3=8 in 8 pre-season games.  Toronto is going to need people who can score so as long as he can stay out of Ron Wilson's doghouse then he should get some opportunities.

Anssi Salmela made NJs opening day roster... keep an eye on him, he led the Finnish league in goals amongst Dmen last year... we like this kid and in the Breakout Bible questioned if he could be this year's Tobias Enstrom?

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which will give you a consolidated list of injury status):

  • Petr Sykora missed both games in europe but is listed as day-to-day with a groin injury.
  • Tuomo Ruutu is nursing a sore groin and has missed a lot to training camp, he says he'll be ready for opening night but he's never been the healthiest guy so you never know.
  • Rod Brind'Amour returned to action after knee surgery.
  • Philippe Boucher played last night after returning from a sore toe.
  • Pavel Datsyuk looks ready to go after returning from a sore groin and playing last night.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today... the Canadian Dollar is headed downwards... currently $1 Canadian will get you 91 cents US... bad news for some but great news for the Scouts as we've been sitting on US currency since we were deported out of the US last year and have been patiently waiting for the salad days to return where it was down around 65 cents... not sure that's going to happen but every cent counts... say a prayer for us would ya.
