Daily Diarrhea

Alexander Semin was 2+3=5 last night, are you kidding? 5 point night?  He leads the league by 3 points now and is ahead of Alex Ovechkin by 14 points right now.  Man, all these people that said Ovechkin was the best player in the league must be feeling pretty silly right now, he's not even the best Russian guy named Alex on his team.

It would be unjust for us to only talk about players that are going well right now... so we bring you the fact that Michael Ryder is 1+2=3 in his last 11 games... awful.... how's that for balanced reporting?

Kari Lehtonen still has a stiff back so he won't play this weekend... well that return to the lineup lasted all of zero games before going down with another injury... Ondrej Pavelec has been called back up and should get at least one start this weekend... Pavelec is the goalie to own on Atlanta.

Tomas Vokoun "tweaked" something, we'll leave what he tweaked to your imagination but that meant he couldn't go last night and so Craig Anderson  stepped in and shutout TB for his 2nd straight win.  This combined with the fact that Vokoun has lost 4 straight could mean more playing time for Mr. Anderson.

Right after we called Nigel Dawes a major personal disappointment this year, he puts up 2 points last night.... so apparently Nigel reads the site... Nigel, if you're still listening, thank you and for Christmas we'd like a new bike and the GI Joe Aircraft Carrier.

Despite Gretzky jerking Keith Yandle around by scratching him and not giving him ice time, the kid has 8 points in 10 games so far and none of them are on the PP, so there's definitely potential for more.

We took down our old poll... despite losing the election, McCain won the war and he was your choice to beat Obama in a hockey fight... oddly enough, McCain gained a lot of support after election day, so we think there was some serious sympathy voting going on or maybe people's opinion of Obama went down after they found out he only bowled a 37 recently.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which will give you a consolidated list of injury status):

  • Nathan Horton left the game last night but it was only because of the flu, so nothing to worry about.

  • Tim Connolly left last nights game with a bruised upper body... which theoretically could be a bruised brain, which he's had a few of... so beware.

  • Scott Gomez missed last night's game with a leg injury, he's day-to-day for now.

  • Brent Johnson made his 5th straight start but had to leave after one period because of a sore hip... he was replaced by Jose Theodore and this could open the door for JT to try to win his job back.

  • Danny Briere's latest injury is a groin pull and he'll miss a week.

  • Kari Lehtonen is out for the next 2 games, at least, with a stiff back.

  • Returning from injury last night was: Cory Stillman, Brian Gionta, Rusty Klesla, Matt Cullen, Viktor Kozlov and Joni Pitkanen.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today... today? this is sure to be the distraction of the week... as Brian Burke has been relieved of his duties as Anaheim's GM and will soon be free to discuss his unemployed status with other teams.  Not sure that this guy is the savior that everyone makes him out to be... he gets a lot of credit for the Cup win in Anaheim, which is debatable, granted he did clear cap space which allowed him to attract UFAs and make the Pronger trade but his cap management since has been a joke and his overall draft record is sub-par.  Curious to hear your opinion, please rock the vote in our new poll and let us know what you think of this guy as a GM.
