Daily Diarrhea

Reports that Dallas and Pittsburgh are going to hook up on a trade, swapping dmen Darryl Sydor for Phillipe Boucher.  Kinda useless but still interesting deal as these guys have identical contracts (both $2.5M this year and UFAs at end of the season) so this wasn't done for cap reasons, it was a old-time straight hockey deal.  Guessing that Dallas figured they could spare Boucher in an effort to shake up their team a little bit.  Boucher is most famously known as ESPN's pre-season #3 ranked Dman... he could find some new life in Pittsburgh and is worth watching

Michael Nylander got back into the lineup after being scratched on Friday night but only saw 12 minutes of ice-time.  Can't really blame the coach cause you're not going to take away ice-time from a guy like Nicklas Backstrom who had 5 points last night and is toasty hot right now (2+10=12, +10 in his last 5 games).

In a "you know when you've hit rock bottom moment"... Ottawa was swept in a home & home by the NYI.  Not sure if the team will get out of their 10 month funk but we firmly believe that their offensive stars are undervalued right now... go out and try to pry guys like Heatley, Alfredsson and Spezza away from GMs in your league cause these guys will start scoring big soon.

In a giant FU to Cliff Fletcher, Kyle Wellwood scored his 7th goal of the year last night against his old team.

Dustin Penner was a healthy scratch last night for Edmonton after only posting 2 points in his last 15 games and Craig MacTavish was less than complimentary about Dusty, so it could take a while before this blows over.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which will give you a consolidated list of injury status):

  • Franky Beauchemin has a torn ACL and is likely gone for the entire season... well that's not pleasant for owners of Franky Goes to Hollywood (of which we were one, dammit).

  • Andrew Ference is out for up to 8 weeks with a broken leg.

  • Alexander Semin sat out last night with that minor shoulder injury that he picked up on Friday night.

  • Returning to the lineup last night was: Marty Erat and Pavol Demitra.

Dman of the Day

If you're looking for a dman to plug into your lineup next week, give Sami Salo from Vancouver a whirl, he's probably available on your waiver wire, Van city plays 4 games next week and with Bieksa out, Double S will be the main man on the PP (he led the team in PP time last night).

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today... the Grey Cup match-up is set... the league avoided what would have been a been a bit of a debacle if Edmonton had made it out of the east (yes, it was possible) and set up an all Alberta final, in Montreal... but the league got their dream match-up as it will be Calgary v Montreal a week from today... should be a big CFL love-in this week in Montreal with Montreal fans, Calgary fans and Saskatchewan fans (they go to the Grey cup even if their team doesn't make it) all prepping for the big game.
