Anyone catch Ilya Bryzgalov in the shootout vs Chicago last night? Anyone else thinking that he was publicly protesting the shootout (taking a stand, perhaps?) by not going down on the shot from Jonathan Toews?... we hope that was the case cause otherwise watch the highlights and give us one reason to think that he wasn't throwing that game.
Sergei Samsonov got his first goal of the season last night, if you held on to him for this long... you're a fool. This guy is a waste of space, in general and on your fantasy hockey roster.
Tampa Bay poured 52 shots on net but still couldn't beat Florida... two things of note in Rick Tocchet's second game behind the bench... 1) Stevie Stamkos got a season high 17:55 of ice time, had 9 shots, skated on the 1st line to start and with Prospal and Vrbata for the rest of the game, 2) Radim Vrbata played a season high 17:50, had a season high 6 shots and had a season high in goals with 1 (his first for those a little slow on the uptake). Vrbata has points in 3 straight and is getting close to be a recommended FA pickup by us.
After being scratched for 2 games, Dustin Penner returned to the lineup, was on the 1st PP unit and scored a goal. We assume that MacT still thinks he's out of shape but he'll live with it along as he pots a couple here and there.
3rd straight start for Dwayne Roloson and he was full credit for the win last night stopping 37 of 39 to beat Columbus... that's 6 straight games without an appearance for Mathieu Garon and he's looking like a droppable player cause he's lucky if he even dresses right now.
Pascal Leclaire let in 7 goals on 19 shots last night and that's not going to go over well with Coach Hitchy as he's battling with Steve Mason for playing time.
Minnesota is playing like, well, Minnesota right now... only 18 goals in their last 9 games and Antti Miettinen's troubles (0+3=3 last 9 games) are troubling Mikko Koivu as well (2+1=3 last 9 games) or vice versa.
In a move that makes you wonder if Brian "Salary Crap" Burke is still running the show in Anaheim, they sent Bobby Ryan down to Bakersfield of the the East Coast League for a day, cause they are so tight against the cap. So Babs goes to Bakersfield on Monday, sleeps in a hotel there, gets up on Tuesday morning at 5am and is driven back to Anaheim (3 hours) to practice at 10:30am... welcome to the big leagues kid and get used to it.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which will give you a consolidated list of injury status):
Update on Mike Fisher, originally it wasn't serious but now its called strained knee ligaments and he'll be out for a few weeks.
Chris Neil from Ottawa has a knee injury as well and he's expected to be out 2 weeks.
Cory Stillman missed last night's game with lingering concussion issues, he returned for 2 games but is still feeling the effects of the concussion he sustained on November 2nd... avoid him for a while cause these can be hard to kick.
Kyle Okposo has a hand injury that will keep him out for a week, at least.
Dman of the Day
If you're looking for a waiver wire dman... take a look at Dennis Seidenberg from Carolina. No multi-point games this year but the Kraut has 10 points in 19 games, 7 coming on the PP, shoots the puck a lot and will chip in a few PIMs. He gets more ice than anyone on the team and led the team in PP time last night.
Distraction of the Day
What's distracting us today... our favourite college baller, Stephen Curry from Davidson, dropped 44 points on Oklahoma in Norman. Dell's son can ball, no lie... saw him drop 40 in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament last year and another 30 to beat Gtown in the 2nd round. If you get a chance to see Davidson play this year, don't hesitate. Man, we're seriously considering transferring to Davidson right now (not sure if you can "transfer" from an office job), its going to be a fun year watching Curry and best part would be that Davidson provides a free laundry service for all its students. No laundry for 4 years?.. where do we sign?
