Daily Diarrhea

Kari Lehtonen is feeling ill (playing for Atlanta will do that to you) so they called up Ondrej Pavelec to backup Johan Hedberg last night and Pavelec played the 3rd period after Hedberg gave up 6 goals.  If Lehtonen can't go today, look for Pavelec to get a shot... and watch out cause this kid is capable of stealing this job.

Dan Ellis couldn't go with a sore back yesterday, so Pekka Rinne got his 2nd straight start and 2nd straight win while only giving up 3 goals in those 2 games... so there's no need for Nashville to rush Ellis back.

Edmonton is obviously showcasing Dwayne Roloson and he's looked solid in all 3 starts so far and is making a case for a quick trade or more starts for Edmonton.

Marty Turco gave up 5 more goals on 25 shots last night and has now taken to blaming his defense for his poor start, "From my perspective, it just seems like all of the time I've got guys trying to be goalies, going after pucks," Turco said. "We need guys to take men and give us the lanes to see. It's getting old, and it's disheartening."

Pittsburgh called up Janne Pesonen from the AHL and he immediately was in the lineup playing with Geno Malkin but saw less than 10 minutes of ice time and was pointless.

Oscar Moller played his 10th game yesterday and LA told him that he's not going back to junior, so good news for the kid.  He responded with 2 goals and now had 6 points in 10 games.  Let him establish himself this year and then we'll talk about his breakout chances next year.

RJ Umberger got his first goal last night and seems to be much more comfortable back in his suitable 3rd line position as opposed to #1C role... only problem now is that they're paying RJ like a #1C and they still can't find a true #1C.

After only 3 points in his first 9 games, Tomas Plekanec got the funk out last night and went 2+2=4.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which will give you a consolidated list of injury status):

  • Sidney Crosby had two points last night, so if he's hurt then its not affecting him so don't bench him for a second.

  • Rick DiPietro had knee surgery (again) and is out 4 to 6 weeks.

  • Martin Brodeur left the game last night with a bruised elbow and is day-to-day

  • TJ Oshie left the game with a high ankle sprain, he'll be re-evaluated on today but it sounds serious.

  • Dan Ellis has a sore back and has missed his last 2 starts, he's day-to-day.

  • Brent Burns missed last night's game, reports are that its a lower/upper body injury... he's day-to-day... aren't we all?

  • Returning from injury last night was: Brad Richards, Tim Connolly, Raffi Torres and Tom Poti.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today... we're turning back our clocks, don't forget to crank yours back as well, an hour or two, depending on your mood, just make sure you're not late (or early) for church.  Speaking of gods... check out this cheeky move by Dimitar Berbatov from Man Utd... now there's something to worship.
