Daily Diarrhea

Yesterday we talked about Bobby Ryan's awesome commute from Bakersfield to Anaheim for practice... well it didn't appear to affect him too much last night as he was 2+1=3 while playing on the 1st line.  Caught some of the game and Babs was a monster out there and he'd be worth a pickup if you need immediate help on the wing.

2 outta 3 ain't bad for Meatloaf and 2 for 5 was good enough for Ted Williams but 3 for 6 ain't going to get it done for "My Name is" Jonas Hiller... but that's all the saves he could muster after coach Randy Carlyle rewarded him for a shutout last game with back-to-back starts.  We're betting against a third straight start.

Alex Ovechkin is 6+8=14 in his last 5 games and heads into tonight's game in LA, which is Russian Vodka Appreciation Night, on a big high.  If you weren't sure if this guy was any good, well consider yourself warned.

Hopefully you took our repeated advice when we told you to sell high with Ryan Miller as he's now 1-3-1 in his last 6 games with a 4.52 gaa after giving up 7 goals on 20 shots last night.  If you took our advice and sold high then take those proceeds and buy low, a good candidate is petroleum... if you don't have room for a few barrels in your mudroom then at least fill up your tank and a few gas cans.

Lindy Ruff tinkered with his lines and moved Jason Pominville up to a line with Thomas Vanek and dropped Derek Roy down to the second line.  Well they both responded, Pommer with 3 points (4+3=7 in his last 5 games) and Roy with 2 points... hopefully this will help both guys get the (min-)funk out.  Also remember that Pommer, Roy and Vanek have all been good 2nd half performers over the past few years so things should only pick up from here.

Marc Savard put up a 4 spot last night and is 1+8=9 in his last 4 games.  We're in bed with Savvy, he's wonderful, always a pretty valuable 4/5 category guy who takes a lot of useless penalties, which we love, and this year he's shored up the +/- and is shooting a little more so he might end up being that rare bird... a 6 category stud.

Chuck Kobasew had 2 goals last night and has 8 points in 7 games on the year, looks promising but his minutes, shots and PP points are all disturbingly low so we wouldn't recommend adding him unless those trends reverse themselves. In the plus column for Chucky is that he is playing with one of our favourite breakout candidates in David Krejci, who after 3 points last night is on pace for a 50+ point season.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which will give you a consolidated list of injury status):

  • Mike Green left last night's game part way through the first period and did not return after getting discarded by Chris Pronger rather unceremoniously, its a suspected shoulder injury and he'll be re-evaluated today.

  • Jere Lehtinen will be out 7 to 10 days with an upper body injury.

  • Marco Sturm missed the game last night (although the team didn't seem to miss him) with an upper body injury, he's listed as day-to-day.

  • Tim Connolly missed last night's game and is out with a... [insert favourite injury here], he's week-to-week according to Buffalo.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today... appears that our site has been hacked... by something called theScore.com Sports Federation (although we're naming Nickelback as a "persons of interest")... more on that later.

Speaking of sellouts... what?... seems that our favourite legal fued, between Taco Bell & 50 Cent is back on again and the mitts have come off as lawyers for the Bell are calling out Mr. Jackson saying that he's only filing a lawsuit against them to try to enhance his street cred... right, cause gangsta's are all about following the proper legal channels when it comes to copyright infringement?... so 50s sending out a message to everyone that they better not mess with a gangsta cause he'll bring his posse of lawyers after you and slap you with a few civil suits.
