Daily Diarrhea

Light night in the NHL but big night for Mike Cammalleri who posted a hat-trick in the win over Vancouver.  As suspected, he has settled onto the 1st line with Iginla and is the LWer you want over Todd Bertuzzi cause he's more of sure thing than Bert.

Hottest player on Calgary right now is Curtis Glencross with 3+6=9 in his last 7 games playing on a pretty effective energy line with Craig Conroy and Rene Bourque.  Don't expect this to last unless he gets moved up to one of the top 2 lines but if you need a short term fill-in then see if you can catch lightning in a bottle and pick him up.

Mark Mancari was close to the top of the AHL scoring race (25 points in 14 games) when he was called up by Buffalo recently and he caught our eye the other night, especially cause we thought we saw a ghost...big kid, 6'3", 225, skates like a seal out of water, wears #25 for Buffalo... totally thought Dave Andreychuk came out of retirement.  Now, we're not suggesting that Mancari's going to pot over 600 NHL goals but he did get his first (in his second game) and has been using his big shot (13 shots in 3 games).  We'll keep an eye on him for ya.

The Sedin Sisters are starting to pick it up... Dani's 6+4=10 and a +6 in his last 7 and Hank's got 8 assists over the same stretch.  As much as we like to make fun of these guys, they are really two of the most consistent fantasy performers around... always right around a point per game and combined they've missed 1 game over the past 3+ seasons.

Tampa Bay called up Steve Downie from the AHL where he's been doing his thing with 13 points and 51 PIMs in 10 games.  This kid has talent but he's a bit of a circus act so he should fit right in with TB.

Alex Kovalev has points in 4 of his last 5 games but no goals in his last 11... not really surprising since in Kovalev's mind he had a good season last year so then he gets to take this season off.

All that Michael Ryder rejuvenation talk can be thrown out the window... he's got 1 goal and 4 points in his last 12 games.  He's on pace for 11 goals this year which won't even touch the 14 goals he had last year in Montreal during a terrible season.

Brian Burke agreed to a six year deal to become the Leafs president and GM.  He has a reputation for bringing in North American players so it will be interesting to see what impact he has on the young Leaf nucleus (which is very European-heavy).  We'll be looking into this in more detail soon.  [more]

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page which gives you a consolidated list of injuries):

(c) www.jerseydatabase.comSome good news for the Canucks... Kevin Bieksa returned to action Thursday night.  He's a got a broken foot and was supposed to be out 3-4 weeks...he returned after only two.  That foot is still broken but his doctor said he couldn't make it any worse. [more]

After getting some positive news on Alex Semin, Mike Green and Sergei Fedorov this week, it now looks like all three will be out until next week.  It's probably best to wait until they play a game to activate. As long as Alex Ovechkin scores four points a game the Capitals should be fine.  [more]

Scott Walker picked up a lower body injury on Wednesday and is listed as day-to-day but this guy is as injury prone as they come so be wary.

Nathan Horton suffered a cut on his leg that will keep him out of the lineup for the next 2 games.

Good news on Nikolai Khabibulin's groin injury, it doesn't sound serious so he's listed as day-to-day.

(c) www.jerseydatabase.comOlli Jokinen's injured shoulder is going to keep him out of the lineup for at least two weeks.  This one worries us a bit.  Jokinen owners (or anybody really) might want to take a chance on Martin Hanzal who may get moved up to the first line in Jokinen's absence.

Marco Sturm's been out a week with a UBI and now its been revealed that he had a concussion and is still not over it... yikes, well luckily he's sucked enough this year that you either already dropped him or weren't expecting much.

The one injury that concerns us more than a concussion... is a bad back,,, and that's what Tomas Holmstrom is dealing with.  He's missed 4 games already and now they're saying that he'll miss the next 3, at least.  If you're the type of GM that has no problem trading injured players to unsuspecting GMs then see if you can pawn this guy off on some sucker and mitigate your risk.

Returning from injury last night was: Mike Fisher.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  We saw this preview of a clip from an upcoming episode of Entourage guest starring Michael Phelps:

Apparently that's the whole cameo.  7 seconds.  Pretty pathetic.  You think the boys from Entourage could have hit on his girlfriend or something.  Just seems like the waste of a perfectly good Olympic champion.

The clip of Phelps made us think back to a couple of hockey players guest starring on a sitcom earlier this year.  Willie O'Rea and Kevin Weekes on The Chris Rock Show.  Unlike Phelps, they are actually involved in the plot:

Anything with Willie O'Rea in it gets an thumbs up from FHS.
