Daily Diarrhea

Gordie Howe Milan Lucic gets the Gordie jersey today for his Gordon Howe Hat-Trick last night.  Looch has a 3 game goal streak going and couldn't be on a better line right now than riding shotgun with Kessel and Savard.  We were a little concerned that Lucic's fighting might tail off as he became a more important player this year but he keeps scoring and chucking knuckles with great regularity and is now on pace for 25 goals, 50+ points and 150+ PIMs... giddy up.

Speaking of Philly Kessel, we much preferred the goal streak (that ended the other night) but he's still got his point streak going, up to 14 now after a 3 point effort last night... dude is absolutely on fire right now.

So from the first two paragraphs, we're guessing you surmised that the Bruins had a good night last night... and you'd be right.  They easily controlled the line of scrimmage and held the Falcons to a field goal in a 7-3 win.  Next up for Atlanta?  How 'bout Boston again, in Boston, tonight?  Sound like fun?  After last night's debacle, Atlanta is officially the worst defensive team in the league giving up 3.68 goals per game.

Patrik Elias just missed out on making or last Fantasy Fortnight hot list but his hotness cannot be denied as it's up to a level that only Gisele Bundchen could fathom... he's 7+11=18 in his last 10 games.  So ride him while he's hot or latch on to one of his linemates, Gionta (15 points in his last 10) or Zubrus (11 in 10) and enjoy ride.

Frolik We tend to snicker when someone mentions the Florida Panthers and good hockey in the same sentence but the Florida Panthers are playing some good hockey right now... coach Pete DeBoer has them rolling and they're 7-1-2 in their last 10 and 8th place Buffalo wakes up this morning and discovers that Florida pulled into a tie with them for the final Wales Conference playoff spot.  Two interesting notes: 1) Michael Frolik played a season high 20 minutes last night, plays on the 1st line and #1 PP unit and now has 7 points in his last 7 games; and 2) Jay Bouwmeester is really leading the charge and now leads the team in scoring, he's 5+4=9, +9 with 28 shots in his last 9 games... too bad they're going to have to trade him later this year.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Zajac Travis Zajac picked up 2 goals and a fight last night and maybe all that heavy lifting sapped his energy as he couldn't finish the game... doesn't sound too serious, he's questionable for tonight's game.

The results of Chris Higgins' MRI came back and doc says that he's out 4 to 6 weeks with a bum shoulder... tough year so far for Higgy.

Craig Rivet missed last night's game with a UBI, this is the same injury that knocked him out of a few games earlier this month, so it's a nagging thing and the team says that he needs to rest, so sounds like he'll be out a week, at least.

Jose Theodore picked up a hip flexor at practice and couldn't go last night... he's listed as day-to-day.

Montreal revealed today that Carey Price has a LBI and will be out a week.

Stephane Robidas has a broken jaw and is out a week as well.

Nikolai Khabibulin returned last night and picked up the win after being out 6 games with the groin injury.  Cristobal Huet didn't blow anyone away in his absence so Khaby should climb right back into the driver's seat.

Sweet returns for Mike Green and Sergei Fedorov last night as both had 3 points in their first game back.

Mike Van Ryn also returned last night but wasn't as effective as he spent the whole night looking over his shoulder wondering if Tom Kostopoulos was waiting to finish him off.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  You've probably already heard about the feel good story involving the Blackhawks, a funeral and a McDonalds.  If not, check it out.  A cool little story which even made MSNBC:

Nice to see the NHL get some good publicity after Avery-gate.  Want more?  Here's Adam Burish and Patrick Kane talking about the magical night.
