Daily Diarrhea

Jokinen Wonder who mans the waiver wire phone at the NHL offices?  Dude must hate the Lightning, since they're calling like every day... yesterday's call was in regards to Jussi Jokinen. This doesn't really have a big fantasy impact, even if you were holding on to JJ for his shootout prowess, he's only gone 1 for 7 this year.

A few Sabres are starting to heat up... Derek Roy has an 8 game point streak going and is 4+8=12 over that stretch and we've been recommending Drew Stafford for a while now and he's 5+4=9 and a +8 in his last 7 games.  Unshockingly, these two are playing together right now and are auditioning LWers but haven't found one that can stick.

If you thought that pair was hot, you ain't seen nothing... Zach Parise has two 4 point games in his last 5 with 10 points over that stretch and is on pace for a monster season with 50 goals, 100+ points and 350 shots.  Given all that, ZeeP is not even the hottest player on his team as Patrik Elias is 7+9=16 in his last 9 games and is on pace for almost 100 points and 300 shots himself.

Ty Conklin will get the nod tonight as Chris Osgood continues to heal from his groin injury.  After shutting out the Sharks we guess it's only fair Conks gets another shot. [more]

VarlamovMore on the goalie front...Simeon Varlamov has been sent down to the AHL.  Sometimes life isn't fair as S-Var outplayed both Brent Johnson and Jose Theodore in his two starts.  He's the future goalie of the Caps so hold onto him in keeper leagues but don't expect anything this season.

Sticking with the AHL theme, Atlanta sent Ondrej Pavelec down there as well since Kari Lehtonen appears ready to return tonight.  We had thought OP would launch more of an offensive to win the #1 spot in Atlanta but it wasn't meant to be as the team treats their own end as a disaster zone and his numbers flesh that out... 3-6, 3.55, .884.

Joey MacDonald is not in the AHL but if the Islanders had any sort of options, he should be... he's got no wins in 7 December starts and sports a rather rotund 4.56 gaa with a .876 sv% this month.

AHL?... how bout KHL... this has been brewing for the past week or so but now its official that Freddie Norrena is gone, off to Ak-Bars Kazan in the KHL, so Steve Mason is here to stay.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Teemu Selanne fell and cut his leg with this own skate, bizarre injury.  He left the game and was on crutches afterwards, he'll go back to California to be evaluated but it looks like he might be out of action for a few weeks.

Ryan Whitney has been sent on a conditioning assignment in the AHL.  He'll play one game there and probably suit up for his season debut either Monday or Tuesday.  Get him in that lineup.  [more]

Carey Price is practicing but is not expected to play tonight for the Habs.  If his knee holds up this week Price should be good to go tomorrow.

Sticking with the Habs...Andrei Kostitsyn's injury we told you about yesterday was a knee injury.  He won't play tonight as well but could lace 'em up tomorrow. [more]

BrodeurHow about a Marty Brodeur update?  The team is expecting him back in mid-February, which is a month earlier than expected.  If your in a keeper league hang onto Marty...he should bring a King's ransom through trade when he returns. [more]

Derick Brassard's shoulder injury he suffered two days ago should keep him out of action for about a month.  Tough break for the rookie.

Marian Gaborik is experiencing soreness in his groin.  This isn't good, but he did play last night.  You would have to think the team and Gaborik are pushing the envelope a bit as the Wild want to increase his trade value and Gaborik wants the big contract (which we think he'll be hard pressed to get).  Hold on tight Gaborik owners...this may be a bumpy ride. [more]

Sami Salo a.k.a. 'injury in a uniform' has a broken rib and is expected to be out for a month.  What's the point in owning this guy?

Mike Comrie and Kyle Okposo returned from their injuries last night for the Islanders, so get them in your lineup if that turns you on.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  There are a couple of semi-cool videos floating around out there today:

Those videos are peppered all over the net and we would really like to present you, our loyal reader with something your not going to get anywhere else.  With that in mind we present you with "Arnie (and Dr. Phil) Call a Hockey Store".  Enjoy:

Yeah it's a stretch...but we guarantee you won't see that clip on any other sites today.
