Daily Diarrhea

Sundin all starMats Sundin has set a target date of Dec 15th to sign with an NHL team.  We've heard Sundin give deadlines before but we believe him this time.  Doesn't really matter what team he's on from a fantasy standpoint. If you own him...get excited.  If he's a free agent...pick him up asap. The Hejduk-Stastny-Smyth line was one of the hottest to start the season but we hadn't heard from them in a while... until this past week as both Hejduk and Stastny have 7 points in their past 4 games and Smyth chipped in 4.

If you are a Kris Versteeg owner then you hit the jackpot last night as the rookie threw a couple of knuckle sandwiches at Kyle Turris and picked up 27 PIMs.  You gotta love it when that happens.

Columbus scratched Jakub Voracek last night, the kid has been struggling lately with only 1 point in his last 10 games and Coach Hitchcock only plays him about 10 minutes a night, so something had to give.  Maybe Hitchy should spend some time fixing his goalie situation as he threw Pascal Leclaire between the pipes last night and he gave up 5 more in the loss to Anaheim... that makes it 16 goals in the last 3 starts for Leclaire.

Smith, mikeMike Smith is going to start all four of Tampa's games this week.  With four games, he might even get a win.  Smith has been a great goalie on a bad team so he won't help you out much.  Add that to the fact all four games are on the road and you might want to take a pass on Smith this week. Andrew Ladd must think he's back in junior or something cause its been a long while since he's played like this... 4 points last night and that gives him 7 points in his last 3 games.  Good for him... do we recommend you pick him up?  Not a chance in hell.

Similar to the Phil Kessel goal streak watch we started yesterday we're starting an Alexei Kovalev goal drought watch today... and its up to 16 games already!  Man, I wish I had a fraction of the god given talent that he has... well, except for the laziness, already got that coming out the ying-yang.

Was checking out any big changes that new Carolina coach Paul Maurice might have made but it looks like he's sticking with pretty much the lines and ice time that Peter Laviolette used for now.  One change is that Sergei Samsonov's ice time has increased a bit, up to around 20 minutes a night and he's responded with points in his last 3 games... be wary of this guy though, he might be lazier than Kovalev.

StaffordThe Sabres juggled their lines in Sunday's practice: Jochen Hecht-Jason Pominville-Thomas Vanek were the top unit and Derek Roy-Nathan Gerbe-Drew Stafford are the new look second line.  Hecht, Stafford and Gerbe all get an uptick, while D-Roy gets the downtick.  We'll see if the lines stick but you might want to keep an eye on Gerbe and Stafford in particular.

Ilya Bryzgalov started back-to-back games and picked up back-to-back losses.  Last night was especially ugly as he gave up seven goals on 28 shots.  Welcome back Mikael Tellqvist.  Wonder if Bryzgalov was pissed about being left in there for 7 goals and pulled a Patrick Roy?... walking past Gretzky and telling the Phoenix owners (some faceless organization that apparently really likes losing money) that he's played his last game for the 'Yotes?

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Sami Salo left last night's game with a groin injury.  In other news, the sun rose this morning.

Niclas Wallin missed yesterday's game with a LBI, he's day-to-day.

Dan Ellis should only miss another game or two with the bruise on his knee we told you about yesterday.

HagmanNiklas Hagman is day to day with a headache.  Suck it up Hagman... slap a band-aid on it and get out there!

Olli Jokinen is expected back on Wednesday.  We'll leave it to you to decide if you stick him in your lineup this week.  It really depends on who you can put in their instead of Jokinen.

Returning from injury last night was Scott Walker

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  We're not 100% sure but we're pretty certain that this is the only song written about a Maple Leaf defenceman who has scored only one point in his last seven games:
