Daily Diarrhea

Wheeler Blake Wheeler scored 4 goals and was named the MVP of the Young Stars game yesterday.  Many (including us) didn't think the kid was ready for the NHL when Boston picked him up...but he's proven everybody wrong.  He has an impressive 30 points this year but his big value to fantasy owners is his +27.  If this guy starts getting some power play time (only two PP points this season) he'll take a big jump forward.

Andrew Cogliano was named the fastest skater at the skills competition yesterday.  He was one of our top breakout candidates but hasn't really broken through yet.  He's been playing at a 45 point pace for 1.5 years now...we're hopeful next year he'll make the jump to 60 points.  He'll be a great guy to draft late next year.

While the rest of you ladies were watching the skills competition, your chief scout was digging up valuable information for fantasy hockey GMs... for example here's the guys that always seem to go south after the all-star break and smart GMs will be looking to unload these guys soon.  Here's our All-2nd Half Stinker Team:

Kovalchuk_AS F - Ilya Kovalchuk - career ppg... 1.06  pre AS break, .86 post AS break.  His numbers have decreased post break in each of the past 3 seasons.

F - Marc Savard - career ppg... .96 pre AS break, .77 post AS break.  His numbers have decreased post break in each of the past 4 seasons.

F - Martin St. Louis - career ppg... .87 pre AS break, .78 post AS break.  His numbers have decreased post break in 4 of the past 5 seasons.

D - Zdeno Chara - career ppg... .45 pre AS break, .33 post AS break.  His numbers have decreased post break in 3 of the past 4 seasons.

D - Andrei Markov - career ppg... .59 pre AS break, .49 post AS break.  His numbers have decreased post break in 2 of the past 3 seasons.

G - Ryan Miller - career numbers... 2.54 gaa & .913 sv% pre AS break, 2.93 gaa & .902 sv% post AS break.  His numbers have gone south post break in each of the past 3 seasons.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Filatov Nikita Filatov is out about a week with a knee injury and won't be playing in the AHL All Star Game.  No word yet if Filatov is going to be suspended for missing their ASG.  Filatov isn't going to help you this year as he's not getting the playing time needed.  Hopefully next year Coach Hitchcock will loosen the reins a bit and see what this kid can do.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  We figured that with no hockey no today we would be distracted by the Skills Competition...we were until we saw this:

Guy Lafleur's Disco Album.  We are very happy to have typed that sentence.

LafleurLP

If you are especially brave you can listen to one of the songs in it's entirity here (we only made it half way through).  If you really liked that song you can even download it [Download Flower].  Wouldn't that make a great ringtone?
