Fantasy Fortnight - Who's Hot & Who's Cold

Each week (or so) we'll dip a toe in the fantasy pool, test the water, and find out which players are hot and which ones are not over the past fortnight (that's two weeks).
(Statistics cover the period from Feb 7th to Feb 18th)

PICK UP(s) OF THE WEEK:

JARRET STOLL C LA

Stoll Quite a few guys who interested us but we thought we would give our coveted 'Pick Up of the Week' to Stoll.  He's playing on the second line of a rejuvenated Kings team.  The the last few games he's been playing more than 20 minutes a game and four minutes on the PP (where he has more than half of his points this year).  He's already matched last year's total of 36 points and is on pace for 52 this year.  The best part...he's got 15 points in 12 games and is owned in only 17% of Yahoo leagues.

TOM GILBERT D EDM

Gilbert Did you know Gilbert is tied for 12th in defenseman scoring right now?  He's tied with Chris Pronger, Rob Blake and Zdeno Chara.  That's some nice company.  He's not going to help you in PIM's (16) or shots (70) but if you're in a points based league...he's the goods.  With Lubomir Visnovsky and Denis Grebeshkov out with injuries the Oilers are leaning heavily on Gilly.  He played 6:43 and 7:03 on the PP in two games this week alone.  He's playing at nearly a 50 point pace so don't overlook him.

Honourable Mention: Ryan Kesler, Alex Frolov, Steven Stamkos, Claude Giroux, Richard Zednik, and Mathieu Schneider

Cole, Erik LW EDM  7 1 0 1 0.14 Maybe trade rumours (or trade) will get him going
Comrie, Mike C NYI 7 0 1 1 0.14 We didn't think it could get worse than 49 points last year…we were wrong
Guerin, Bill RW NYI 7 0 1 1 0.14 After a decent start to the season the wheels have fell off…2 points in 13 games
Gerbe, Nathan C BUF  4 0 0 0 0.00 Four scoreless game in NHL = trip back to AHL

Murphy, Cory D TB  5 0 1 1 0.20 Still getting tons of PP time…points not coming since hot start
Corvo, Joe D CAR 6 0 1 1 0.17 No points in last four games
Rozsival, Michal D NYR 7 0 1 1 0.14 1 point in last 10 games
Weber, Shea D NSH 8 0 1 1 0.13 Only 8 points in last 31 games…25 points in first 26 games
Timonen, Kimmo D PHI 5 0 0 0 0.00 Gone 7 games without a point…his longest pointless streak of the season

DROP OF THE WEEK: BILL GUERIN W NYI

Guerin After a reasonably hot start (28 points in before New Years) Guerin has come crashing down to earth (six points since).  Most of you have already come to your senses and cut the 38-year-old winger.  But for the rest of you: Guerin will have a big minus and  should be getting fewer and fewer minutes (under 15 last five games) as the Isles are giving some youngster a shot. In addition, his main pivot, Doug Weight, is out for six weeks so Billy G will be lucky to top 45 points this season.

It's not all bad news with Guerin.  If he moves to the right situation at the trade deadline his production should improve...slightly.  Even with a better team he's not going to be of much use in most leagues.  Drop him and pick up a young up-and-coming player.

Dishonourable Mention: Nate Gerbe, Mike Comrie, Mike Fisher and Erik Cole
