Daily Diarrhea

Marty St. Louis picked up a goal last night.  That's points in 11 of 12 games (with 17 points) for Mighty Mite.  Maybe Koul and the Gang will be able to offer him to the Flyers for Matt Carle.

Varlamov Simeon Varlamov started his third NHL game and picked up his third NHL win.  You have to start wondering if Bruce Boudreau has been thinking of riding his rookie goalie down the stretch and into the playoffs.  Hmmm.

From the little known stat department: Did you know that Tomas Vokoun has 17 wins at home and only six on the road?  Weird.  Maybe he likes the warm weather or maybe his team just steps it up a notch in FLA.

Briere We told you in our Fantasy Fortnight that Daniel Briere was playing on the fourth line.  We were so disgusted by his info we even recommended him as our 'Drop of the Week'.  We still think he would make a great dump but at least there is hope now.  It looks like the Flyers are going to be moving him up the depth charts.  Still...too many injuries + not enough production = waiver wire.

We're big Ty Conklin fans here but it looks like Mike Babcock isn't an avid reader.  Chris Osgood will start his fourth straight game tonight.  Conk's was looking like the clear number one a fortnight ago but it really looks like Babcock and the Wings want Osgood to step up.

Price Carey Price let in four goals on 15 shots last night as his stuggles continue.  It's a little bit of the chicken and the egg here.  Is Price struggling because the Habs are or is it the other way around?  Either way, you'll probably want to avoid putting your team in his hands until he shows a bit more consistency.

We've really lost all faith in Jonathan Cheechoo after his brutal 24 points in 57 games this year.  But there is reason for hope again.  Cheech has been given the juicy assignment of lining up next to Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau.  Nothing like playing on the #1 line of the Sharks to make you fantasy revelant again.  Pick him up and hope he gets hot early.

Cheechoo's gain is Devin Setoguchi's loss.  One of the breakouts of the year has been brutal lately (two points in the last 12) but don't fret too much he'll be lining up with Joe Pavelski and Milan Michalek.

Kotalik One of the few trade deadline pickups that hasn't been putting up big numbers is Ales Kotalik (no points in six Oiler games).  Well looks like that slump is officially over as Ales picked up 1+3=4 last night.  Now that's how you bust out of a slump.  We're getting the feeling Ales is going to be pretty inconsistent down the stretch so don't put all your egg into the Kotalik basket.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Gaborik Remember Marian Gaborik?  Yeah he's coming back.  No, we're serious this time.  Really, he's coming back....this Sunday.  We swear, this isn't a joke.  Minny only plays two games next week so it might be a good time to see if Gabby can play three games in a row.  If you're desperate for help in the last week of the season roll him out then.

The reason for the Cheech-Gooch shuffling above is really due to Ryane Clowe's injury.  He's expected to miss about a week with an LBI.  Clowe is another great breakout candidate so hopefully he won't be out too long.  It will be interesting to see who will be playing on the third line when Clowe returns in a week.

Murphy Nooooooo!  We've been hyping up Cory Murphy for the last few weeks but now we hope you didn't listen to us and pick him up...a first for FHS.  Nothing to do with Murphy's production (nine points in the last ten games) but it looks like he might be out all year with a broken foot.

Pavol Demitra wasn't expected to suit up last night but he actually did.  He played 15 minutes and had no points.  Demitra is as brittle as they come so you can't like the fact he's a bit banged up.

It's looking like Ilya Kovalchuk will be playing in tonight's game.  He missed three games so stick him back in there as he was on fire before the UBI.

Mike Comrie missed last night's game with the flu.  Paul Stastny was the same but with a bruised foot.

DIstraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  We had a our little Cal Clutterbuck tribute in a distraction earlier this week so this video would have been a bit more appropriate a few days ago.  But we couldn't pass it up...especially when Derek Boogaard implies that Clutterbuck has a crush on Elisha Cuthbert:
