Daily Diarrhea

Turco It's not often you lose a game and get a shutout...but that's what Marty Turco did last night.  He stopped 30 of 30 LA shots but lost the game in the shootout thanks to Jonny Quick 29 save performance..

Pekka Rinne lowered his gaa to 2.22 and sv% to .922 with a 3-2 win over the Sharks last night.  Those of you in medium to shallow league probably picked up Rinne on the waiver wire...lucky you.

Another guy who you should have picked up on the waiver wire or if he's still available you should do that right away is Alexandre Burrows... another goal last night and he's 12+7=19 with 48 PIMs in his last 18 games and the amazing thing is that he does it all with little to no PP time as none of his points during that stretch have come on the PP.

Backes David Backes picked up a goal last night..his 25th of the year.  He has 12 points in 12 games in March.  That's good but when you add in his 14 PIM's this month...that's even better.

Rick Nash and Kristian Huselius both picked up four assists and Steve Mason picked up his 10th shutout last night.  If that wasn't enough for you Columbus fans, Jason Williams even picked up two goals in the 5-0 win over Calgary.  Williams now has 11 points in his last 11 games and Coach Hitchcock has been threatening to put J-Will on the 1st line with the big boys.  We sure wouldn't want to meet up with Columbus in the first round of the playoffs.

Another goal last night gives Raffi Torres eight in his last 13 games, still wouldn't recommend this guy but he could be useful if you're really desperate or in a deep league.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Kostitsyn, sergei Both Sergei and Andrei Kostitsyn are suffering from the flu.  Sergei played last night (picking up zero points) but Andrei missed the game.  The older Kostitsyn shouldn't be out too long.

Kari Lehtonen left yesterday's game with an appartent UBI.  No word on extent of the injury yet but after two six goal games maybe he needs a rest anyway.

Mikko Koivu skated lightly on his own yesterday.  Still no timetable for his return but he fact that he's skating is good news.  Still, we don't like his chances for returning this season.

Jarret Stoll left last night's game with a leg in injury and Trevor Daley left the same game after going headfirst into the boards... no word on the extent of either injury at this point.

Legwand David Legwand took a puck in the grill in practice the other day and he'll be out a week, at least while he gets his face put back together.

Jonathan Cheechoo missed last night's game with a LBI.. he's listed as day-to-day.

Markus Naslund is playing hurt... he has a shoulder injury that limited him to only 12 mintues last night.  This combined with his diminishing skills could impact his production.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Todd Bertuzzi and Martin Hanzal.

DIstraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  When we can't find anything interesting out on the internet (other than this Reebok ad featuring Pavel Datsyuk) usually we'll get a bit desperate and stroll over to have a look at the videos up on NHL.com.  Normally the videos are pretty boring but we were pleasantly surprised by these two.  Hopefully they distract you as well...in a good way of course.
