Daily Diarrhea

Jokinen It didn't take Olli Jokinen long to make Darryl Sutter look like a genius as OJ struck for two goals last night and despite everyone giving him heat for baggin' it this year and all the "locker room cancer" talk, he's 6+4=10 in his last nine games and those numbers are sure to continue as long as he's with Iginla.

Sidney Crosby returned last night and found that he has two new linemates... Chris Kunitz and Billy Guerin.  The three played together all night and then were joined by Geno Malkin on the #1 PP unit so you can see that these new guys hit the jackpot.  Much to our chagrin, Ruslan Fedotenko retained his spot on Malkin's wing and picked up an assist to give him eight points in his last seven games... never has a player been given so much and deserved so little.

Big battle of the breakout goalies last night as Pekka Rinne took on Steve Mason.  Rinne was the victor stopping 31 of 33 while Mason let in four on 23 shots.  Check out Rinne's numbers since Feb 1st... 14 starts, 11-2-1, 1.97 gaa & .935 sv%.  Mason's living off his hot November and December but since Feb 1st... 12 starts, 6-5-1, 2.72 gaa & .890 sv%.

Five wins in a row for Marc-Andre Fleury and his numbers during the streak are super-duper... 1.40 gaa & .954 sv%.  Get him in there if you've been stashing him on your bench.

Gerber Speaking of hot tenders... Marty Gerber was a wall last night in his Leafs debut stopping 37 of 38 shots to pick up the win over the Caps.  While we don't expect this to last, it does give Leafs fans another reason to remind Sens fans that we own you guys... although if Gerber ends up playing decent and the Senators end up getting Tavares it will be proof that god (& Kerry Fraser) hates the Leafs.

Tomas Kopecky has been seeing some shifts with Henrik Zetterberg lately and has produced seven points in his last six games.  This is not a guy you want on your fantasy team but just proves that anyone on Detroit can put up points in the right situation.

We're going to keep mentioning Steve Sullivan as long as he stays white hot and until this scout convinces himself to pluck him off the waiver wire.  Another goal last night gives him 7+5=12 and a +8 in his last eight games.

Everyone on Nashville is hot lately, even the chronic under-achiever David Legwand has 5+2=7 in his last five games and 28-year old rookie Joel Ward has seven points in his last five games.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Briere Danny Briere left last night's game with a lower body injury that could be another re-aggravation of that pesky groin injury he's had all year... this scout is getting re-aggravated that Briere can't stay healthy for my fantasy hockey team... this is ridunkulous.

Evgeni Nabokov missed last night's game as he tweaked something in the lower part of the body during practice and is out day-to-day.  Hopefully it wasn't a major tweak.

Alexander Ovechkin took a puck off the boot in practice and has a bruised foot.  He missed last night's game but you know he's gonna be in the lineup on Sunday vs his old buddies from Pittsburgh.

Jere Lehtinen missed last night's game with a UBI, he's listed as day-to-day.

Poti Let's hope these guys get paid by the game and not the shift... Freddie Modin only survived 53 seconds before hurting his knee again and had to leave but that didn't even take the cake for the shortest cameo as Tom Poti only lasted seven seconds before packing it in due to his lingering groin injury.  Can you even really get hurt in seven seconds? (maybe bull riding, I suppose).

Sidney Crosby returned last night after missing four games with that groin injury and had a goal in 18 minutes of action.

Also returning to action from the injured list last night was: Milan Lucic and David Booth.

Distraction of the Day

What's distracting us today?  Ryan Hollweg might not be the best hockey player on the ice but he has to be one of the most entertaining off it.  You might remember Hollweg from his impromptu dance from a distraction a few months ago:

Classic.  We just discovered another Hollweg special.  This time he's doing his best Tommy Boy impression:

If you've never seen 'Tommy Boy' there's something seriously wrong with you.  Here's the actual scene from the movie:
