Daily Diarrhea

Bertuzzi copy For the second game in a row Todd Bertuzzi took a stupid penalty early in the game (last night it was less than two minutes in) and the Hawks converted on the PP and the game was essentially over.

Can't really blame Miikka Kiprusoff on any of the Hawks goals last night but when you only stop 12 of 15 shots and the goalie at the other end (Nikolai Khabibulin) stops 43 of 44... we dare say that you were out-goaltended.

Look for Mike Keenan to be out of a job shortly, like within the hour, and even Darryl Sutter should be in some hot water after a four straight 1st round losses.  As for the team, it will essentially be the same squad next year, less Cammalleri, Bertuzzi and Aucoin, as the GM won't have much cap space to add new pieces.

Byfuglien Dustin Byfuglien had a big game #6 with 1+2=3 and was definitely a By-factor in the series as the big winger was a physical force right from the beginning.  We don't think he'll ever be a big scorer but he could be a useful fantasy player as he racks up shots and PIMs and may still carry eligibility as a Dmen in some leagues.

Jonas Hiller capped off a pretty amazing 1st round performance stopping 36 of 37 to eliminate the Sharks and finish the series with a 1.65 gaa & .957 sv% to go along with his two shutouts.

Corey Perry was held pointless in the first three games of the series but came back strong with goals in each of the last three and was his usual ornery and annoying self.

We love to see fights right off the opening face-off and we love to see fights between stars... combine the two and you got this little gem.  There was also a pretty good tilt between FHS favourite Joe Pavelski and Ryan Whitney and our boy knocked the snot (&blood) out of the bigger dude [video].

Gordie Howe Speaking of Getzlaf, you don't see Gordie Howe Hat-Tricks often enough, especially in the playoffs, but Getzlaf is a special player.  He seemed to get life from his fight off the hop and responded with an assist on the tying goal in the first period and then added an insurance marker with a patented wrist-rocket.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Dion Phaneuf couldn't go for the Flames last night, the concussion must have left him pretty woozy and there are rumours that he's been playing hurt all year... he'll have a long summer to recover.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  Two game #7s tonight and in preparation we went out searching for a list of the top 10 game #7 heroes and offer you this... we'd personally bump #9 & #7 a lot higher and we refuse to acknowledge that #3 even exists (fricken Kerry Fraser)... so lets just call it a top 9 list and nobody gets hurt.
