Daily Diarrhea

Cleary Game #1 goes to Detroit and for the second game in a row, Dan Cleary was the hero for the Wings.  In game 7 against the Ducks he had the game winner and yesterday vs the Hawks he had two goals and was a plus-3.  With 5+6=11 in 12 playoff games he might me giving Jussi Jokinen a run for our prestigious John Druce Award as it seems unlikely that he'll ever parlay playoff success into a strong regular season as he's never managed more than 42 points.

Cleary may be getting the headlines lately but the guy who should be making room on his mantle for the Conn Smythe is Johan Franzen.  Another three points yesterday gives him 9+9=18 in 12 playoff games and his level of play just seems to rise as the games get more meaningful.  If you're a believer in the Mule then give him your vote in our poll as the 2nd round MVP (other than Crosby).

Last year's Conn Smythe winner, Henrik Zetterberg, may give Franzen a run for his money again this year as he's had 7+9=16 in 12 playoff games but we think those numbers are a little inflated as four of Hank's goals have come with the net empty.

Roy Rumours out of Denver have Patrick Roy being offered the Avs head coaching position.  Not sure how current head coach Tony Granato feels about this as it appears he's getting relieved from his position for the second time.  Roy is said to be mulling the offer over but we'd bet he'll take it and bring his mile-wide ego to the Mile High City.

Speculation out of New York is that Nik Zherdev could bolt for the KHL this summer.  He's a RFA who's shown flashes of brilliance and the ability to disappear in equal measure... which makes him a perfect fit to join other champions of motivation like Alexei Yashin and Oleg Tverdovsky playing for the paycheck love of the game in the K.

Injury Updates

Sergei Gonchar practiced yesterday and said that it "looks promising" that he'll be in the lineup for tonight's game #1 vs the Canes.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  Its the May 2-4 long weekend up here in Canada which officially marks some queen's birthday but un-officially marks the beginning of summer in Canada.  Well in fitting fashion this scout woke up to snow here in Calgary... only positive is that it keeps us focused as hockey is still in the air and on the brain.
