Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Nov 17th, 2009

Dosage Express
Vinny and Tanguay have a good one... Hedberg's stealing time... GlenX is coming back... FIlatov could be goneski... Ovie's back tonight (probably)... A-Gol is A-Gone... The ex-Leaf rap

Daily Diarrhea

Alex Tanguay (1+2=3, +2) and Vinny Lecavalier (2+1=3, +3) finally had a big game together... it's been a long time coming.  We like Vinny's chances of keeping this kind of producting going more than Tanguay's... we're not big Tanguay fans.

Hedberg, johanJohan Hedberg has played three out of the last four games for the Thrash.  He's picked up three wins and let in seven goals over that span.  He's one of the better backups in the league but that's all he'll ever be.  He'll probably steal a few starts in the short term, but don't expect any long term value here.

Just wanted to give you a heads up... Curtis Glencross' suspension is over and he's eligible to play tonight.  He only has 6 pts in 15 gms so you shouldn't have missed him anyway.

One of our big breakout picks, Claude Giroux, might be coming out of his early season slump.  He picked up three points in his first nine games... but has seven in his last eight games.  Pick him up if somebody dropped him in your league, we're still expecting big things.

Forsberg, peter (modo)Peter Forsberg has told Canuck's GM Mike Gillis that he's staying in Europe this year and will not be attempting an NHL comeback.  No big deal, it just saves fantasy owners from being frustrated by his injuries later in the season.  Grab him if you're in a SEL fantasy league, though.

Nikita Filatov was a healthy scratch last night.  He's only been averaging eight minutes a game (mostly on the fourth line) anyway so this isn't a big surprise.  Now it's starting to look like he'll be heading back to Russia for the remainer of this season.  If that happens, he's an automatic drop in all yearly league but don't lose faith in keeper leagues... he's only 19. [more]

Ryan Malone continued his very un-Malone-like season with two assists last night.  He's now on pace for a crazy 54+31=85 with with only 45 PIM's.  Expect the PIM's to rise and the points to drop.  Now's a good time to sell high.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Here's your daily Alex Ovechkin update.  Coach Boudreau on Alex's status for tonight's game: "as of today (Monday), he's in".  That's good enough for us... get him in your lineup asap.  You don't want to miss any Ovie-time.

Goligoski, alexAlex Goligoski's groin injury will keep him out of action for 2-3 weeks.  Would have been nice if the Pens told those of us in weekly leagues a bit earlier!  Some guy that isn't fantasy worthy (Nate Guenin) has been called up to replace A-Gol

In our rush to get our post out yesterday we overlooked Sheldon Souray returning to action Sunday night.  Oops, our bad.  He played 25 minutes and picked up a plus-1 on Sunday and had two assists in 27 minutes of action last night.  He looks to be suffering no side effects from the injury... get him back in there.  Well, at least, until his next injury.

Matthew Lombardi missed last night's game with a LBI.  We don't know how long he'll be out yet.

Ryan Smyth suffered a UBI in the third last night and didn't return.   He'll be re-evaluated tomorrow.

Yesterday, we told you about Steve Mason's back issues but we didn't know the extent.  Well it doesn't look too serious, as he backed up Matty Garon last night.  We would avoid starting Mason if you have another option (but you probably don't, so cross your fingers and hope for the best).

Gagner, samSam Gagner missed last night's game with the ol' lower body injury.  Maybe this is the reason for his struggles this year.  At any rate, if he's not already on your bench, he should be now.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was James van Riemsdyk

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  Another video from Bloge Salming.  We hope they aren't running out of Leaf material because this video is all about ex-Leafs.  Ahhh, who are we kidding with this group of Leafs there will be plenty of more material to come this season.
