Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Jan 18th, 2010

Dosage Express
Olli goes bananas... Brouwer's no flash... still buying-low on Hiller... Lids finally heating up... Emery returns... the worst display of defence ever

Daily Diarrhea

HEADS UP: There's two early starts today, 1pm EST being the earliest, so if you're a daily transactions kinda guy then... rise & shine.

Jokinen Olli Jokinen went bananas and probably won a few weeks for some fantasy GMs as he had a goal, 10 PIMs and nine shots last night... huge fantasy game, thanks OJ.  He's been chipping in the PIMs & shots lately but points have been harder to come by as he only has 3+1=4 in his last 10 games.

We mentioned yesterday that you should keep an eye on Troy Brouwer and like Stephane Auger on a vendetta, he followed through with a big game yesterday (two points) and is up to 6+4=10 in his last 11 games.  This doesn't appear to be just a fad either as he's played more than 16 minutes in all but one of his past 20 games.

Jonas Hiller was pulled on Thursday night after giving up three goals on 13 shots but Randy Carlyle went right back to him last night and despite giving up four goals, he looked very sharp as he faced 37 shots and three of the goals were on breakaways, so we're going to continue to plug Hillsy as a buy-low candidate and are hoping for a big stretch-drive.

Dan Sexton was on fire when he was first called up to the NHL before going through a cold spell and now has four points in his past four games... but we're passing on this guy as his minutes have dropped off (around 11-13 per game lately) and the shots have dried up (only 13 in his last 10 games).

Knuble Mike Knuble's had a pretty disappointing year for a guy that's played a lot on the Caps top line and seen a decent amount of PP time (only on pace for 48 points) but he's been holding a hot stick lately as he has six goals in his last six games.

Nick Lidstrom has been one of the bigger breakdowns of the season but he's doing his best to make it up to fantasy GMs with 2+10=12 and a plus-10 in his last 11 games.

Torts scratched Ales Kotalik back in December and when he returned he could only manage three points in 12 games so he gave Torts no choice but to scratch him for both games this past weekend... you should have scratched this guy right off your roster a while back, but thought we'd mention it just in case.

Big day yesterday for Ryan Callahan with 2+2=4, plus-3 and seven shots but despite racking up a lot of shots (on pace for 222) and this being his second four point game in the span of a month, he's had a disappointing year as he's only on pace for 43 points... we expected a lot more as we picked Callahan to breakout this year in the Breakout Bible.

Brandon Dubinsky was good for a three pointer yesterday and while he hasn't been terribly consistent he does have 7+8=15 and 47 shots in his last 14 games.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Emery Ray Emery has been rarin' to get back in the net for a while now but the Flyers couldn't take Mike Leighton out... that was until he lost to Leafs on Thursday and that opened the door for Emery to make his return against yesterday against the Caps, a nice cupcake to ease him back in, right?  Well Emery got shelled, giving up five goals on 22 shots and we're not sure where Laviolette goes from here as their next game is a very winnable one against the CBJs, so Emery owners should be praying that he gets the call.

Milan Hejduk had knee surgery that will keep him out for the next 2-4 weeks.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  This goal, which I'm sure you've seen as its totally gone viral (you know whats really gone viral?... the word 'viral', but that's another story) in the past few days... scored by the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL...

While this is one of the best goals we've ever seen, its also probably the worst display of defence we've ever seen... has the phrase, "take the body" ever been mentioned to any of these defenders?
