Upshall's rising up... Ray-Ray & D-Ro get surprising calls... Green & Boyle sit... BUSHKORN!!! BUSHKORN!!!
HEADS UP: Our weekly 'Fantasy Five' article is up over at HockeyDraft.ca... check 'er out.
Scottie Upshall turned the trick last night as he had a natural hat-trick in the 3rd period to bring the Coyotes from behind for the win. He's been real good over the past month with 8+7=15 in his last 15 games and has been productive on the season as he's on pace for 28+20=48 with 80 PIMs and 184 shots.
Peter Laviolette gave Ray Emery the net for his third straight game last night and he responded by shutting out the Rangers with 24 saves. We had thought that Mike Leighton would put up a fight even after Emery was healthy but it seems like Emery has reclaimed a firm grasp on the starting job... that was easy.
Interesting decision by the Islanders to go back with Dwayne Roloson last night after he gave up five goals in a loss to the Penguins the other night. He rewarded their confidence in him by stopping 33 of 34 shots to beat the Panthers last night. We'd guess DiPietro is back in the net when they host the Devils on Saturday (as he shut them out already this week) but where this is heading is a mystery... it's one of the better Crease Conflicts right now and given that the Isles are playing well lately (10-3-1 in their last 14), its definitely one worth watching.
The Tim Connolly watch continues as he extended his point streak to 14 games with a pair of assists last night... this is crazy as seven of the 14 games have been multi-point games, hell, we're shocked that he can stay healthy for 14 straight games.
Victor Hedman was a healthy scratch last night... seems like he may have hit the proverbial rookie wall as he's only managed two points and has been a minus-8 in his last nine games.
Tampa also sent rookie James Wright back to junior yesterday... not sure why they kept him around and played him less than 10 minutes a night... well I guess probably cause its the Lightning.
This scout is really desperate for help on LW so we're scraping the bottom of the barrel to find guys like Jussi Jokinen... he's been pretty serviceable lately with 3+6=9 and five PPP in his last six games and over his last 12, he's 6+8=14 with a plus-7. Give him a look as he's playing on the top line with Staal right now (per FantasyHockey911).
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Mike Green sat out last night's game with an undisclosed injury but he participated in the morning skate so it doesn't seem very serious... look for him to return shortly.
David Backes missed last night's game with a UBI, no update on his status yet.
Dan Boyle also missed last night's game with a UBI and while we don't know the full extent it is expected that he'll miss the Sharks next game on Saturday as well.
Nigel Dawes left last night's game with a LBI... no word on the extent.
Josh Harding suffered a hip injury in last night's game and left after the first period... the extent is TBD.
Sami Salo, he of many injuries, suffered an apparent groin injury last night and is expected to miss Saturday's game, maybe (& likely) more.
Nathan Horton took a puck to the leg late in last night's game and he was hurting... not sure if its serious.
Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Dmitry Kulikov, Brent Burns and Milan Michalek.
What's distracting us today? We just discovered this Leafs superfan named Bushkorn on youtube (Puck Daddy with the assist) and while we're not really sure how to describe his videos... let's just say that we haven't stopped laughing since:
And to show you that he can still be entertaining without the huffing & puffing, here's a more medicated version of Bushkorn with a recap from an earlier game:
