The Hawks ready to flip?... Avalanche watch... an unlikely combo strikes again... Spezza probable... is Jose Theodore hitting the sauce?
This could be a big turning point in the fantasy season for a lot of GMs... the Hawks are giving Antti Niemi his second straight start tonight in Vancouver. He's been playing well all season and Huet has struggled lately so they'll give him a chance to go on a run. We could see Niemi playing so well that they have no choice but to keep riding him... keep an eye on our Crease Conflicts as we're on top of this one.
Another goal last night for Brandon Yip gives him 6+4=10 with a plus-6 in his last 12 games... nice production from the rookie who's seeing some decent minutes on the 2nd line in Colorado.
Speaking of decent rookies in Colorado, Matt Duchene put home another goal last night and he's been hot lately with 5+2=7 and a plus-5 in his last five games. The Avs have a favourable schedule with a lot of home games remaining so Duchene could be useful in even shallow one year leagues down the stretch.
We've been talking up JM Liles from the Avs lately and he stayed hot with another PP assist (he played a team high 8:56 on the PP) and has 1+7=8 with six PPP in his last seven games. Same comment regarding the Avs favourable sked that we mentioned above applies here.
Sam Gagner continued his little run with two goals last night and has 4+5=9 with 41 shots in his last 10 games... nothing to sneeze at there.
The unlikely combo of the Frenchmen from Ontario (Benoit Pouliot) and the Mexican from Alaska (Scott Gomez) kept clicking last night for the Habs as Pouliot scored for the ninth time in his last 12 games and Gomez added his 16th assist in his last 17.
Leafs coach Ron Wilson has proclaimed Jonas Gustavsson as his #1 goalie... thanks for that, Captain Obvious... were you worried that people would be wondering what happened to Vesa Toskala? So if you're looking for starts from Leafs goalies then look to the Monster and accept our condolences for your season.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Jason Spezza is listed as probable to return tonight from his knee injury that's kept him out of the past 20 games... so get him in there if you need him and hope that the time off will help him shake his season long slump.
Jake Voracek took an elbow to the chops on Thursday and while the team isn't calling it a concussion, sure sounds like one.
Joel Ward missed last night's game with a groin injury, he's listed as day-to-day.
The Thrashers have sent Kari Lehtonen down to the AHL on a conditioning assignment... so he's getting closer (assuming his back holds up) but is still a week or two away.
What's distracting us today? Not sure how many people saw the Caps-Penguins game on Thursday but check out the first highlight below of the opening goal for the Pens and explain to us if Jose Theodore is drunk or if he's actually trying to let them score???... what the hell?
