Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Jan 24th, 2010

Dosage Express
Streaking with Burrows & Connolly... a Niemi let down... Vokoun & Elliott hot tenders... Horton breaks a leg... Hockey talk from The Rock

Daily Diarrhea

Burrows Alex Burrows put up a rare three assists last night and that extended his point streak to 11 games during which he's 13+5=18.  This guy is getting into some pretty rarified air as he's on pace for almost 70 points, 122 PIMs and 220 shots... we'll say it again, that's fantasy gold.

Yesterday we said that Antti Niemi getting the call in back-to-back games could be a turning point for some fantasy GMs... well it didn't quite turn out as we had hoped as Niemi gave up three goals on 12 shots and was pulled after the 1st period... damn.

Tomas Vokoun shut out the Leafs last night stopping 39 shots, ho-hum... but this guy is in the zone right now as he's 5-1-2 in his last eight with a boffo 1.24 gaa & .963 sv%.

Tim Connolly extended his point streak to 15 with a goal last night and while we want Connolly owners to enjoy this run as you've probably been waiting a while for him to stay healthy and produce like this, its definitely a great time to sell high.  While he's been a pretty consistent point producer on a points-per-game basis, he's never been able to stay healthy and put together a monster season like he's on pace for right now... so we'd cash out while you're ahead and get a more proven commodity.

Connolly's buddy, Jason Pominville, is on a mini-streak of his own as he has points in four straight and 3+5=8 in those four... he can be pretty streaky, so lets hope this is the start of a long one.

Pavelski Its been a huge week for Little Joe Pavelski, with two goals last night he has 3+6=9 in his last five games... he's been a little hampered this year by injuries and the fact that he has to play with guys like Malhotra and the struggling Setoguchi on the 2nd line.

Another game and another goal for Benoit Pouliot and he's up to 10 in last 13 games... as we mentioned before, this can't last but its already lasted longer than we ever imagined so maybe we should just sit back and enjoy.

Don't give up on MA Bergeron just because his ice-time is down to around 10 minutes a night... he's still seeing a ton of time on the PP and is making good use of it as he's had six assists (five on the PP) in his last nine games.

It was a four-pointer last night for Alex Semin and he's been scorching hot lately with 7+10=17 in his last 10 games.  He sits 20th in the league in scoring but is top 10 in ppg at 1.17.

Brian Elliott won his fourth straight game yesterday by stopping 32 of 33 to beat the Bruins and he's only given up five goals during those four games... so get him in there but watch out this week as the Sens get the Devils and Penguins in their next two games.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Horton So Nathan Horton's leg injury was a little more serious than originally suspected as he broke a bone in his leg and will be out for 4-6 weeks.

Carlo Colaiacovo couldn't go last night as he's suffering from a LBI... he's listed as day-to-day but this guy has a history of lingering injuries so you never know.

Slava Kozlov missed last night's game but he wasn't hurt, he was a healthy scratch... hopefully you weren't counting on much from him as he's had an awful year but the dude did have 76 points last year.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was:  Todd White, Sergei Kostitsyn, Jason Spezza and Mike Green.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  We've previously used this space to completely bash The Rock's new movie 'The Tooth Fairy'.  Sure we've never seen the movie (and never intend to see it) but we figured our completely biased ranting about hockey's mistreatment on the silver screen was warranted.  After seeing the trailer it seemed like a pretty fair call.

But we just watched this interview with Mr. The Rock and he's got some pretty high praise for hockey players:

According to The Rock (at about the 1:30 mark), hockey players are crazy and tougher than football players and wrestlers.  Sweet.  This scout is not a fan of wrestling but my opinion of The Rock just went through the roof (even if he was just pulling the promotional ball and chain).  Maybe we're just desperate for more to realize this very important fact about hockey's toughness but we're almost inclined to stop making fun of this movie...almost.

It's possible that the word is out... bad mouthing hockey gives you bad karma.
