Overrated Bruins wingers... Satan to join them... a few Sabres we'd avoid and one that we wouldn't... some big name returns... Costas is a clown
Marco Sturm scored the winner in the winter classic yesterday and he's also been effective in covered rinks lately... he's scored in four straight and in five of his last six. That being said, we don't have a lot of time for this guy as he's a chronic underachiever.
Michael Ryder blows... this shouldn't be news to anyone but we just wanted to make sure that we were on record with that... you should have dropped him a long time ago.
Speaking of Bruins wingers that suck, the rumour is that Miroslav Satan will sign with Boston shortly... if you're desperate for a warm body on the wing then go ahead and grab him but just don't expect much production, dude's washed up.
Mike Leighton almost pulled off his fifth win in a row yesterday as he carried a shutout late into the 3rd period... we're not convinced about this guy but we're starting to come around, give him a look if you need some starts in net.
Jochen Hecht was 2+1=3 for the Sabres yesterday and has 4+5=9 in his last 10 games but don't be fooled by his little hot streak lately, he'll be lucky to hit 40 points this year.
Tim Connolly is a guy on the Sabres that we'd highly recommend over Hecht as he has 4+4=8 with a plus-6 and 21 shots during a five game point streak... this guy will produce points as long as he's healthy.
Tyler Myers has been very impressive this year but he's still not really doing it for us fantasy wise as he's putting up assists (seven in his last 12 games) but he's not adding much else as he's on pace for only 20 PIMs and 84 shots. He is a very solid plus-7 this year but is a minus-1 over his last 10 games.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Derek Roy returned after missing two games with a UBI and scored the winner in OT last night (into an empty net)... that gives him points in four straight and 2+3=5 overall.
The Sabres Nate Gerbe was activated off the IR and sent back to the AHL.
Sergei Samsonov has a UBI and is listed as day-to-day... we'd go ahead and drop him indefinitely.
Teemu Selanne is hoping to return to action this week from his hand injury... so get ready to activate.
What's distracting us today? One word to describe the Winter Classic yesterday... borefest, a few more games like that and this idea will be getting stale real quick. I mostly caught the CBC feed but switched on NBC once in a while to see how bad they were butchering things... I should have turned the channel the minute I saw Bob Costas but for some reason I kept watching long enough to hear him say:
The Bruins retired numbers are hanging beside the Red Sox greats, there's Bobby Orr's number four and Phil Esposito's number seventy-seven
ahhh, one for two Bob, nice try.
