Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Jan 3rd, 2010

Dosage Express
Iginla's linemates two to watch... Weber is a monster... Downie up due to Vinny... Phaneuf hurt... the Oilers cheap-out

Daily Diarrhea

Langkow Daymond Langkow really only has fantasy value if he's playing with Jarome Iginla (which he is right now, see FantasyHockey911) and with three assists last night and 1+8=9 in his last 10 games, he's trying to prove that he deserves to stay in that spot.  The third member of the line, Curtis Glencross, has three goals in his past two games and could be useful if he can stick on this line for a while.

Monster night for Shea Weber with 1+1=2, plus-2 and 10 sog... he hasn't been too consistent but the numbers over his last 10 are all-world: 1+6=7, plus-6, 16 PIMs and 29 shots.

Two point night for Steve Downie last night gives him 2+3=5, plus-3 with 10 PIMs in his last five games.  He's been boosted by playing regularly with Vinny Lecavalier, who has had a resurgence lately with 3+9=12 and 36 shots in his last nine games.

We can't recommend Andrew Brunette as he's too one-dimensional but he does have 3+3=6 in his last seven games.

Langenbrunner A hat-trick last night for Jamie Langenbrunner and he has 5+1=6 during a four game point streak.  While he's been a very consistent fantasy contributor over the past five years or so, its worth noting that he's on pace for a career high 71 points this season.

This is more like it from Nicklas Lidstrom as he has six assists and a plus-6 in his last four games... maybe this will shake his season long slump.

Going in the opposite direction is Dustin Penner as his play has fallen off the map lately with only 1+2=3 and 18 shots in his last 10 games.

The Blues fired Andy Murray and replaced him (on an interim basis) with Davis Payne, who had been coaching their AHL affiliate in Peoria.  We don't know too much about Payne but he's been getting some decent results in Peoria and the Blues can't be much worse offensively than they were under Murray, so this should be a good move for fantasy GMs who own Blues... we'll have more on this tomorrow.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Phaneuf Dion Phaneuf left last night's game with an undisclosed injury... one report says that his arm was in a sling after the game so we'll go with UBI... stay tuned for more details.

Mikhail Grabovski left the game as well after taking a pretty good walloping and looking pretty woozy... not word on the seriousness yet.

The Caps Nick Backstrom left last night's game but he was suffering from a migraine and wasn't injured... so after a few tylenols, he should be fine.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Viktor Stalberg.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  Puck Daddy with the story about the Oilers and their exploits on NYE in Calgary, where they rang up quite a tab at a pricey restaurant and then short-armed the bill after disputing some of the charges.  Wysh seems to be on the players side here but regardless, this is a bunch of millionaires out for a booze-infused meal who decided that they shouldn't have to pay their bill to the fullest and then left a "generous" 15% tip... where we're from, that's called "cheap".
