Doughty drops four... who the hell is Brad Richardson?... Quick be hot... Bergeron looks hurt... firing up hockey fans and lesbians
Four helpers last night for Drew Doughty and the league's biggest breakout this year doesn't look to be slowing down at all as he has 1+7=8 in his last five games... this moves him up to 5th in league scoring amongst dmen.
Ryan Smyth scored again last night and that's three straight games with a PP goal. Maybe Smytty can get Anze Kopitar going as he had 1+1=2 last night but he's only had 3+7=10 in his last 20 games... this might be another chance to cash out on Kopi while the iron appears to be hot.
We've just caught on to what Brad Richardson is selling right now... the kid started the year playing under 10 minutes a game and didn't record a point in his first 26 games but now he's seeing upwards of 15 minutes most nights and has 5+8=13 & a plus-9 in his last 16 games... definitely worth a look in deeper leagues.
Outside of his 23 wins, Jonny Quick's numbers for the season (2.56 & .907) don't really blow you away but take a closer look and notice that he's 7-4-1 with a 2.30 gaa & .922 sv% over the past month. You might be able to convince another GM to give him up if he's under the impression that Quick's just been living off of a hot start.
Brandon Dubinsky had two assists last night and this continued a hot streak where he has 4+5=9 and 25 shots in his past seven games... lining up with Gaborik is good work if you can get it.
The third member of the Rangers top line these days is Erik Christensen and he has 2+2=4 in his last three games... no action needed yet but keep an eye on him as the dude has a lot of offensive ability.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Patrice Bergeron tried to deflect a Dennis Wideman slapshot with his hand and has now learned that maybe that wasn't such a good idea as his hand is probably broken... no official word from the Bruins but he won't play tonight and has gone back to Boston to be re-evaluated.
The diagnosis on Kevin Bieksa is in and it ain't good... he's out 2-3 months with severed ankle tendons.
Semyon Varlamov has suffered a minor setback in his rehab from that groin injury, so its expected that it will be at least another week before he's ready to return.
Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Jarret Stoll.
What's distracting us today? Today's distraction is obviously the big showdown between Canada & the USA tonight in the World Juniors final... we went back looking for classic clips of some previous battles and came across this bizarre highlight package of the 2004 final that has Marc-Andre Fleury's most embarrassing moment set to some sorta Melissa Etheridge type track... if this doesn't fire up hockey fans and lesbians at the same time, then I don't know what will...
