Sloppy himself with a four-pointer... Stewart, McDonald, Connolly and Briere all hot... D-Ro will not go quietly... Ribeiro chokes (for real this time)... Top 10 WJC moments/stupid comments from P-Mac
Big night for Sean Avery as the Stars' sloppy seconds really came back to bite them last night with 1+3=4. In addition, he was a plus-3 with 12 PIMs... this would be some awesome production if he could get himself up for more than one game a season... PASS.
We told you we'd keep an eye on Erik Christensen for ya and he added another assist last night and now has a four game point streak alive... we still don't think you need to take action on this but we'll keep watching.
Chris Stewart scored last night and while he's not on fire like he was about a month ago if you go back 20 games he's 12+8=20 with 67 shots... so he's putting up some impressive numbers for a prolonged stretch.
Andy McDonald potted another goal last night and that's markers in four straight and seven in his last eight games... he's a great long-term add if you can snag him.
With an assist last night Mark Giordano has 3+6=9 in his last 15 games. He's seeing some decent time on the PP lately but only three of these points have come on the PP and while he's usually good for some PIMs, he's only managed six in his last 15 games. This combined with the fact that he's on pace for less than 100 shots this year and we're not even sure why we mentioned him... right, 9 in 15... maybe just give him a look if you're in a points-only league, how's that?
Rick DiPietro may be ready to return soon but how can the Isles justify taking Dwayne Roloson out of the nets right now as he's 5-0-1 with a 2.07 & .936 in his last six games... aren't these guys supposedly fighting for a playoff spot right now?
Insane-in-the-membrane goal by Robbie Schremp last night [video]... he also added an assist and now has 2+3=5 in his last five games... not sure Rob Schremp hockey is for everyone but we know there's a lot of people that have been waiting a long time for this guy to do something... hell, anything.
Tim Connolly extended his point streak to seven games last night with two assists and he's been lighting it up with 5+6=11 and a plus-10 during the streak. This kinda production is not out of the norm for him, this is what he can do when healthy, enjoy the good times while they last.
With eight assists in his last seven games, Marek Zidlicky has very quietly moved into the top 10 in the league in scoring amongst dmen. This guy is a real steady point producer who's been north of 30 points in each of his five seasons and topped 42 points in four of five.
Two goals last night for Danny Briere and he has 5+2=7 in his last six games despite seeing his ice-time drop under Peter Laviolette (he played 13:45 last night).
Mike Leighton racked up another win for the Flyers last night and he has a 5-0-1 record with his new team (a little deceiving as he took a no decision after getting pulled nine minutes in vs Ottawa)... we'll point out again that his five wins have come against: CAR, TB, NYI, NYR & TOR... not exactly murderer's row. It will be interesting to see what will happen when Ray Emery is ready to return, which could be as early as Saturday. Related note: We did a major refresh of our Crease Conflicts page yesterday, so check that out for some tender thoughts.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Nik Antropov missed Tuesday's game with a minor hip injury, he's expected to miss tonight's game as well but is likely to return on Saturday.
Mike Ribeiro left last night's game after taking a stick to the throat... he'll be re-evaluated today.
We presume that Keith Tkachuk has been having some Tiger Woods-like dental work done after taking a puck to the teeth the other night... he missed last night's game and is probably out for the next two as well.
Eric Staal has taken a leave from the team to deal with a death in the family, he'll probably miss two games.
Marek Svatos is out again with the groin injury that kept him out of six games back in December... he's listed as day-to-day.
Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Owen Nolan.
What's distracting us today? We're still coming down off the buzz so you get the Top 10 plays from this year's WJCs... which also doubles as the Top 10 Comments made by Pierre McGuire that Make Little-to-No Sense (at this year's WJCs)... the strangest being, "How do you say number one in Slovakian"... ahhh, I beg your pardon:
