Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Jan 8th, 2010

Dosage Express
Hot Wheeler... Burrows & Horny go Bizonkers... everyone on the Flyers getting in to it... who's hotter, Howard or Halak?... injury scares for Savard & Sully... funny hockey themed tee's

Daily Diarrhea

HEADS UP: Our weekly Fantasy Five article is up over at HockeyDraft.ca... go have a gander.

Wheeler OK, Blake Wheeler's hotness is officially legit, with two points last night he's had 4+3=7 in his last three games... we expected big things from him this year as we pegged him to breakout in the Breakout Bible this year.

Alex Burrows followed up his hat-trick on Tuesday with a hat-trick last night... can't remember the last time we saw that... we told you the other day that this guy likes the 2nd halves of seasons and he already has seven goals since January 1st, bizonkers.

This guy is about as durable as a taco shell but if you're desperate for help on D then give Sami Salo a look as he's 1+2=3 with a plus-6 in his last two games and is bound to see more ice and PP time with Bieksa out... just don't blame us if he busts-a-nut next game.

Monster night for Patric Hornqvist as he was 2+1=3 with 6 PIMs and 7 shots... if you go back 12 games you'll see the PH has points in 10 of them and 10+5=15, plus-9 and 36 shots in total.

Van Riemsdyk Everyone on the Flyers is getting into it as they've scored four or more goals in six of their last eight games... rookie James van Riemsdyk had his third straight two-pointer with a pair of goals last night.

Jeff Carter added two goals to his tally last night and that gives him 4+6=10 with 25 shots in his last seven games, so dude might be about to go on a loco run... you know he's bringing tha noise as he's 2nd in the league in shots (on pace for over 350).

So we were way off the other day when we speculated that the Blues had called up goalie Ben Bishop cause new coach Davis Payne wanted to give his guy a few starts... turns out Conklin had some family issues to deal with now that that's taken care of, Bishop's been sent back to the A... ooopsies.

Jimmy Howard stopped 51 shots in a row last night before giving up a late one on the 52nd shot but the Wings scored in the final minute to secure him the much deserved win... he's 4-1-1 with a 1.51 gaa & .958 sv% in his last six starts.

Almost as hot right now is Jaroslav Halak as he posted the 38 save shutout and is 6-1-0 with 1.85 & .955 ratios in his last seven... the situation in Montreal is an intriguing one, probably the best of the Crease Conflicts going right now.

The Rangers Chad Johnson was very solid in his first NHL start and carried a shutout into the 3rd period before taking the loss in the shootout.  This kid was an All-American at Alaska last year and was impressing in the AHL this year (12-7-2, 2.07 & .927) before being called up... so he's one to watch.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Savard Marc Savard skated off the ice very gingerly last night after getting his leg tangled up during some boardwork, yikes... the extent is unknown but get nervous Bruins fans and fantasy GMs.

Steve Sullivan got rammed into the boards from behind and left the ice in some discomfort, not good for a guy who missed nearly two years with a bad back... stay tuned.

Milan Michalek got stood up by Mike Green and once he collected the belongings of his purse, he left the ice and the game after only two shifts... no word on the injury or the extent yet.

Tomas Holmstrom is out for 3-4 weeks after breaking his foot in practice... we talkin' about practice?  The Wings have been snakebit this year so its fitting that Homer goes down just as Zetterberg and Cleary are coming back.

Joel Ward missed last night's game with a LBI, he's listed as day-to-day.

So Mike Ribeiro's sore throat turned out to be pretty serious as he'll miss the next 4-6 weeks.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Milan Lucic, Dan Cleary, Henrik Zetterberg and Brian Pothier.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  We just came across (via Stoeten via Puck Daddy) a new blog called Pucking Hilarious and we know what you're thinking, not another goddam Leafs blog... yes it is... but they have some killer tee's (unfortunately not this one)... hockey themed tees with funny shit like this...
