Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Feb 11th, 2010

Dosage Express
Mason's actions speak... Bergfors 2, Kovy nil... an eye on Cumiskey... Malkin extends... Parise sits... Kronwall crawls

Daily Diarrhea

Mason As we said the other day, actions speak louder than words... Steve Mason had his second straight shutout and third straight win since Hitchcock was fired.  Surely he's available in a lot of leagues so give him a look if you're desperate.

Despite playing under 13 minutes for his third straight game with the Thrashers, Niclas Bergfors registered a goal & an assist last night and padded his lead over Kovalchuk, two goals to nil... Kovy was pointless for the third straight game with the Devils.

Sergei Kostitsyn had three assists last night for the Habs and that gives him 1+5=6 and a plus-6 in his last five games as he's taken over Cammalleri's spot on the top line (see FantasyHockey911)

Not sure if you saw that the Predators recalled Colin Wilson a few days ago and he got his second NHL goals last night... not sure if he'll stick with the team for the rest of the year but he's been playing well in the AHL and was named rookie of the month for January... the kid is a good one, so be patient.

Again, we'll mention Chris Stewart as he was 1+1=2, plus-2 with six sog last night... we're loving this kid this year.

Cumiskey Another youngster from the Avs who we've been watching and who this scout actually picked up last week is Kyle Cumiskey as the blueliner scored the GWG last night and has 1+3=4 in his last five games.  He's been seeing a little more time on the PP these days and is also just a fun player to watch as he skates like few can.

Geno Malkin extended his point streak to 11 games with two more points last night and he's 8+12=20 during the streak.  He also has 18 PIMs in his last 11 and is on pace to top 100 PIMs as well.  If he can keep up this pace and goes around 90 points, over 100 PIMs and 300+ shots, his owners will have to be satisfied despite the drop in points.

Hat-Trick last night for Brooks Laich and that gives him 7+2=9 in his last 10 games and he can be a pretty valuable role player on a fantasy team as he'll go on streaks like this while also chipping in a decent number of shots (on pace for 220), while rarely ever missing a game.

We're not big fans of Radim Vrbata cause you never know what you're going to get but he's been producing pretty consistently this year and has picked it up lately with 8+6=14 in his last 18 games.  One thing you can count on is that he's going to shoot the puck as he's currently 11th in the league with 206 shots.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Parise Zach Parise sat out last night's game with a UBI, details about the injury and the extent are unkown (at least to us).

Michal Neuvirth suffered a minor injury in last night's game but its nothing serious and he might be ok to play tonight.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Fedor Tyutin, Ryan O'Reilly, Niklas Backstrom and Shane Doan.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  This video from the Wings / Sharks battle last Tuesday slipped through the cracks as some of us didn't see it till last night.  Nik Kronwall was pretty confused why he couldn't stand up... until he realized the whole blade fell off his skate... never seen that before!

Sorry, J claimed there was a version of this video featuring Carrie Milbank in a tight North Stars t-shirt but I couldn't find it.... blame google.
