Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Mar 24th, 2010

Dosage Express
Don't hold a grudge vs Krejci... Clemmer good for a few starts... Kovalev not even pretending... Niemi just wins... Lovin McBain... Gretzky clothesless & what if Crosby sucked?

Daily Diarrhea

This scout is just back from some March Madnessing in New Orleans, so I'll be working on getting caught up on some Crease Conflicts updates and all the college free agent news over the next few days... stay tuned

Krejci Its been a disappointing season for Dave Krejci but don't hold a grudge as he might be useful to you over the next few weeks as he's 4+6=10 in his last 10 games and has been picking up the slack with Marc Savard out.

Scott Clemmensen stopped 42 of 43 to beat the Leafs last night, that's back-to-back starts and wins for the Panthers backup.  With Vokoun struggling and the Panthers thinking they still have a shot at the playoffs (when will they learn?), Coach Pete Deboer will probably go with the hot hand here... so if you're uber-desperate for goaltending starts, then give him a look.

Kristian Huselius continued his hot patch with another two points last night and he has multi-point games in four of his last five for 4+6=10 in total.

Alex Kovalev has an 11 gamer going, except instead of games with points, its games with donuts... he's also a minus-10 during the stretch so he's not even going to pretend that he's trying right now... which is pretty much par for the course for Kovy.

A 27 save shutout for Tuukka Rask last night and with that he moved himself into 1st place in the league in sv% at .930.  He's already easily the leader with a 2.02 gaa... pretty amazing stuff from the rookie.

Niemi And while we're on the topic of rookie Finnish goalies who had shutouts last night, we should mention Antti Niemi, this was his second shutout in the last three games and although he hasn't been super-fantastic lately he does only have one regulation loss in his last 11 games and that was the game vs Detroit when he came in after Huet gave up four and Niemi took the loss after giving up the fifth.

Another goal last night for Jake Voracek and he now has 5+10=15 in 15 games since Ken Hitchcock was let go... this could help you some this year but next year is when you really want to own this kid.

Brenden Morrow with another assist last night and he has points in five of his last seven with 3+5=8 in total... he could be useful if you need a LW to close out the year.

Back-to-back shutouts for Brian Elliott after blanking the Flyers last night... he's proving to be very streaky this year as prior to this he had only one win in seven games.

McBain Although he was held without a point last night, Jamie McBain of the Hurricanes is off to a great start to his NHL career with points in each of his first four games (1+4=5 in total).  Give him a look in all types of leagues (this scout picked him up in three leagues recently) as he has a great track record in college & the AHL and is playing a ton right now (averaging 4:28 on the PP).

The resurgence of Andrew Cogliano continues as he potted another goal last night and now has 4+4=8 in his last seven games... he's also our Pickup of the Week in the latest Fantasy Fortnight.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Joel Ward missed last night's game due to a UBI, he's listed as day-to-day.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Brent Seabrook and Niklas Backstrom.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  We've been a bit slack in the Distraction department lately... today we make it up to you, our loyal readers.  Here are a whole heap of things that have been distracting us lately:

- Thank to Stoeten for the link to this classic group of photos of The Great One over at the SI Vault.  All great photos... except the one below...yowzers!

- Two crazy (yet awesome) referee stories from Deadspin.  One referee is giving OHL players advice and another referee is getting run over by a future mental patient.

- A neat little video showing an image of every Stanley Cup winner since 1892-93.  Video = good.  Song = bad.

- TSN on the Taylor vs. Tyler debate ... we're sure everyone will get very sick of this angle as the draft approaches.  A better angle?  How about: "There's a pretty good chance the Bruins will be getting a player who is essentially a 1st overall pick (plus two more high picks) for Phil Kessel".

- Did you know Sean Avery is apparently the 9th most successful ginger in sports?  If you did, you're one up on us... we didn't even realize he was a ginger.  Is it possible to like him even less?  We kid, we kid.  We love gingers... especially this guy.

- You've probably seen the new NHL commercials featuring Bobby Orr and Super Mario... here's the first (of many, we're sure) parody/remake/tribute we've seen... featuring Sid the Kid:
