Dosage Express
Demitra, Kane & Jussi keep rolling... pass on Comeau... Niemi not good since starting... thoughts on Poni & Caputi... Gaborik sits... Emery donesies... levity on deadline day

Daily Diarrhea

Demitra Pavol Demitra kept the momentum that he gained at the Olympics rolling as he was moved up to the 2nd line and #1 PP unit for the Canucks and registered a PP goal last night.

Patrick Kane was also good at the Olympics and with three points last night, he now has 4+5=9 in his last five NHL games as well.

Jussi Jokinen continued his streak, he's had 9+4=13 with points in 10 in a row... dude's now at 50 points and is on pace for 31+34=65... crazy.

Blake Comeau notched the hat-trick last night and, rather amazingly, he has six goals in his last three games... this is definitely not the norm for him so we'd advise that you'd pass.

Rough night for Antti Niemi as he gave up three goals on 12 shots and was chased by the Islanders... not the way to inspire a lot of confidence.  He's started the last five in a row but despite winning four of those, he hasn't looked that great with a 3.28 gaa & .884 sv%.

Steve Stamkos is completely going off, he has points in 14 straight and 5+6=11 in his last five games... if he keeps this up, this won't just be a breakout year, he could top 50 goals & 100 points (currently on pace for 48+46=94).

Downie Still with the Lightning, Steve Downie has points in eight straight and 4+7=11 with 21 PIMs during the streak.

Marek Zidlicky re-signed with the Wild... good for them as he's having a very solid year and is a consistent fantasy contributor.

The Avs have signed John Grahame to a minor league deal... he's 2-10-0, 2.84 & .896 in the AHL this year, so we think Craig Anderson's job is safe.

A minor deal sends the Habs' Matt D'Agostini to the Blues for Aaron Palushaj.  We're not big fans of D'Agostini as he's never really impressed us but we like Palushaj as he was a productive player at Michigan but has been off to a slow start in his pro debut with Peoria... keep an eye on him.

The biggest deal yesterday sent Alexei Ponikarovsky to the Penguins for Luca Caputi and a contract that had Martin Skoula's name on it.  Poni should be a good fit in Pittsburgh as he's a decent player that could really benefit from playing with either Crosby or Malkin, whichever way they decide to go... look for a nice boost in his production the rest of the way.  We'd try to pick out the guy in Pittsburgh who gets downgraded from this deal but none of them have been doing much anyway so there's no big loss there.  Caputi is a good looking prospect, big scorer during his last year in junior and has 47 points in 54 games in his second AHL season, actually after a slow start he's 19+22=41 in his last 42 games... very nice production for a 21-year old.  He should join the Leafs right away and while this will help his short-term value, most people forecasted that someday he'd be playing with either Malkin or Crosby, so this hurts his long-term value.  Get more of our thoughts on what could happen at the deadline with our Trade Deadline Fantasy Preview.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Gaborik As suspected, Marian Gaborik sat out last night's game due to a LBI... now we haven't seen too much talk about this and maybe its related to that cut he had on his knee but if it has something to do with his groin, then look out cause he's had major problems with it before.

Also as suspected, Ray Emery will have surgery on his hip and has been shutdown for the rest of the season.  We'd say its a big blow to the Flyers but Mike Leighton's been very good this season (13-3-1, 2.18 & .926 with the Flyers) & they might be looking for some outside help as well.

Bad news here as one of the Avs wonder-kids, Brandon Yip, has a shoulder injury that is expected to keep him out for 4-6 weeks.

Patrice Bergeron picked up a groin injury at the Olympics and so he sat out last night's game... he's listed as day-to-day.

Derick Brassard was scratched last night due to a UBI, he's listed as day-to-day.

Filip Kuba left last night's game with a LBI, no word on the extent.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Rusty Olesz, Sam Gagner, Erik Karlsson, Andrei Kostitsyn, Benoit Pouliot, Erik Cole, Miroslav Satan, Josh Bailey, Jack Hillen, Brent Johnson, Steve Ott, Jere Lehtinen, Petr Prucha and David Clarkson.
