HEADS UP: Our 2010 Playoff Pool Guide is in the works and will be out by April 12th, at the latest... so come back soon to grab it... it's a $4.00 bargoon
So Mike Modano is the latest to hang 'em up. We'll give Mike the official FHS send-off by reliving his best fantasy season. It's been a while since Modano has been a fantasy factor and you fantasy youngsters may not remember how much of a force he used to be. Like in 1993-94 when he picked up 50+43=93, 54 PIM's and a tidy 287 shots. Nice. He was more than a point-a-game player from 1991 to 2003.
Marian Gaborik has a game winning goal and an assist last night in the most important game of the season so far. Gabby improved on his career best season (86 points). With the win, the Rangers move into a tie with the Flyers for the last playoff spot. The Blueshirts and Flyers meet up again on Sunday... winner takes the 8th seed.
Jimmy Howard and Steve Mason battled it out in a 0-0 game last night with Howard picking up the W in the shootout. That's three SO's for Howard in his breakout season now. Mason and the Jackets finished their disappointing season with the game. They may not have picked up the win but at least it's was a decent way to end it. Enjoy the links, boys.
The Ducks were playing with their 'B' squad yesterday as Teemu Selanne, Scott Niedermayer and Saku Koivu didn't even make the trip to St. Louis for their second last game. All are probable for the Ducks season finale on Sunday. Lazy veterans.
A couple of milestones last night as Alex Ovehckin picked up goal number 50 and Niklas Backstrom picked up point number 100...they both has 2+1=3 nights. No official word yet, but be worried that these two might be on the bench for Sunday's game in order to rest up for the playoffs.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Jeff Carter played over 16 minutes but didn't hit the scoresheet in his return to the lineup Friday night. If you're trying to squeeze a few extra points out of your team make sure you stick Carter in your lineup for Sunday's do-or-die game.
Josh Bailey is out for the rest of the year thanks to the hit by Poni we told you about up top.
Matt Duchene left the game early with a torso injury. Doesn't sound too serious but we would expect to see him on the bench on Sunday to ensure he's in tip top shape for the playoffs.
Returning to action from the injured list last night were: Mike Green, Paul Stastny, Brendan Morrison, Tomas Kopecky and Marian Hossa (who left early in his last game)
What's distracting us today?
How about some famous Leaf fans, or more accurately, famous people wearing Leaf jerseys? WIll that help take your mind off of all the Hall/Seguin talk Leaf fans? Probably not.
It's no secret that we're big fanboys of Steve Stamkos. Our #1 breakout pick this season has actually made us look bad because we ONLY picked him for a 35+41=76 season (the highest by any Fantasy Hockey site, by the way). One great way to ensure you'll get a video up in our Daily Distraction section is to make sure it includes Stamkos... even if it is just him showing us around his house:
