Anderson steals... Niemi shuts door... Zetterberg with more... Richards elevates... Hudler & Filatov to return... Canada out at U-18s... Heatley, Doan & Hejduk hurt... historical funny hockey vids
Crazy game in Denver as the Sharks utterly dominated that Avs, outshooting them 51-17 but Craig Anderson was unreal between the pipes and forced the scoreless game into OT... less than a minute into OT, Dan Boyle fired one into his own net (deflected off of Ryan O'Reilly). Despite that being one of the more bizarre plays that you'll see in a while, take nothing away from Anderson's performance, he's half way to single handedly stealing this series for the Avs.
Antti Niemi also posted a shutout for the Hawks, although he didn't need to be quite as heroic as he only faced 23 shots... this was a nice recovery for the rookie after giving up that one hopper in game #1.
Henrik Zetterberg chipped in two more assists in game #3 and he has 3+2=5 in his past two games and has fired 17 shots on goal through the first three games of the series.
After only playing nine minutes in game #2, Brian Rolston was given a prime opportunity on the PP for the Devils and he responded with a pair of PP goals.
Three straight two-pointers for Mike Richards to open the playoffs and he's been in on both the Flyers game winners as he had the assist on Dan Carcillo's OT winner yesterday. He's a true playoff warrior that elevates his game when it really matters... outside of his rookie year, he has 25 points in his last 26 playoff games.
Two notes from Russia... reports say that Jiri Hudler has been released from his KHL contract and will make his way back to the Red Wings for next season. Nikita Filatov gave an interview recently (quote taken from RussianHockeyFans.com) where he said that he is "determined to return to the NHL next year"... good news for fantasy GMs there.
Canada lost to Sweden 5-4 yesterday at the U-18s and will try to salvage some dignity as they head to the relegation round. Ludvig Rensfeldt was probably the most impressive of the draft eligible players for the Swedes (he's the #5 ranked Euro skater by CS for the upcoming draft) but the really impressive Swedes were two 2011 eligibles, Victor Rask & Victor Berglind... we'll be keeping an eye on them over the next year or so. In other action, the US, Finland & Russia all won yesterday and head into the playoff rounds looking strong.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Dany Heatley sat out last night's game with an undisclosed injury... there's all kinds of speculation of what it might be, LBI, UBI, benching, etc., but Coach Mac says that he'll be back in the lineup for game #4.
Shane Doan had to leave yesterday's game after tumbling into the boards... officially he has a UBI but we'd bet on it being the shoulder.
Milan Hejduk left last night's game after running into a teammate... the injury and the extent are a mystery.
Patric Hornqvist returned for game #1 of the playoffs but only played 13 minutes and he wasn't able to go last night so he's still being bothered by that UBI.
Robert Lang returned after missing 19 games with a LBI... but he played less than seven minutes yesterday and really shouldn't be a part of anyone's playoff pool lineup.
What's distracting us today? We had this strange desire today to track down the video from the SNL episode where Wayne Gretzky was on Wayne's World. Only problem is NBC owns SNL and they aren't big fans of people watching their product online.
We were a bit disappointed until we found this Top 10 list from a SportsCenter from early March which includes a clip from the segment we were looking for. Top 10 Funny Hockey Related Moments:
If anybody is interested in watching extended versions of the clips you can find them here:

Also we have no idea how Jules The Hockey Coach didn't make the list
