Jason Blake shows up for 2009/10... some late goals for Hejduk & Ott... Bernier to start again... Vokoun & Anderson imploding... Clowe hurt... a real hockey pool
Huge night for Jason Blake as he dropped a fiver on the Avs with a goal and four helpers... with this little production spasm, he might actually hit 40 points this year (he's currently at 38)... what a joke. If you were smart/brave/asleep enough to keep him and had him in your line-up last night, bravo.
Milan Hejduk had a goal last night as the Avs continued their choke-job down the stretch... this gives him 8+3=11 in his last 12 games.
With his first career hat-trick last night, Steve Ott has matched the 19 goals he had last year and while he's going to fall short of his 46 points from last year, the combination of the goals with around 150 PIMs & 150 shots is decent for those of you in deeper leagues. He now has 7+1=8 with 30 PIMs in his last nine games.
Despite two straight losses coming in, Coach Q went with Antti Niemi on back-to-back nights and he responded with a 21 save shutout of M'sota last night. We finally officially moved Niemi into the #1 spot in our Crease Conflicts, we didn't want to jump the gun until we thought he had the job permanently, but we're pretty confident of that now.
Sabres rookie Tyler Ennis with a goal last night and he now has 2+2=4 in his first four NHL games... he's probably not scheduled to see much playoff action once guys like Connolly and Vanek get healthy but you never know.
As we postulated yesterday, the Kings are giving another start to stud prospect Jonathan Bernier tonight. This kid is good enough to steal the ball and run with it so look out. Jonny Quick is supposed to start on Saturday... we'll see.
Tomas Vokoun may have blown some GM's season last night as he let in a six-pack versus the Sabres. Despite putting up great numbers we've always said that this guy is a risky play as the Panthers allow way too many shots, 41 last night and a league worst 34.2 /game on the season, so you know he's gonna take some shellings (he's given up four or more goals on 13 occasions this year).
If you own Vokoun then hopefully you don't own Craig Anderson as well, he's also imploding at the wrong time as he gave up five last night and is 1-5-1 with a 4.29 gaa & .857 sv% over his last seven games... brutality.
The rumour making the rounds is that Jiri Hudler will be leaving Russia and returning to the NHL (with the Red Wings) this summer... FYI for you keeper league owners. He's a good one and worth picking up or keeping if you've been holding onto him.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Ryane Clowe left last night's game in the 1st period due to a UBI... no word on the extent. We had just been talking the other day about how it was pretty remarkable how this guy was able to stay healthy this year... our bad.
ME Vlasic sat out last night's game after he re-aggravated his prior knee injury... he's just out day-to-day.
Sergei Kostitsyn left last night's game in the 2nd period with a LBI, not sure if it's serious.
Victor Hedman sat out last night's game due to a hip injury, he's out day-to-day and could return Friday.
Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Raffi Torres and Rob Blake.
What's distracting us today? We've been severely distracted by the great site St. Louis Game Time recently. Not only do they have tons (and we means tons) of goodies on the Blues but their daily links make sure you'll be occupied for hours.
We found this video in STLGT's Wednesday Links this week:
