Price is the difference?... Crosby in own world... JoePa clutch... Jack Campbell dominates at U-18s... Savard passes tests... Blues' (mascot) highlight reel
Carey Price is expected to get the start for the Habs tonight... interesting and gutsy call by Jacques Martin, we would have stuck with Halak but the thing is that Price hasn't been terrible this year, he just hasn't gotten the bounces or the support from his teammates that he's needed. But we're not sure that this will matter anyway as we think the Caps are way too much for the Habs to handle.
Sid Crosby continues his magical season with another four points last night and he's taken his game to a whole new level in the playoffs so far with 4+7=11 through the first four games.
Brian Elliott was the victim of the Sid-show last night as he gave up four goals on 19 shots before giving way to Pascal Leclaire. Rough series for Elliott as he's given up four goals in three of the four games so far and would probably be benched if it wasn't for the fact that Leclaire is awful. We wouldn't get too down on Elliott's long-term potential as its unfortunate that he ran into the determined defending Cup champs here... hopefully he'll learn from this and continue his progression.
Joe Pavelski ripped home the OT winner last night to save the Sharks season (for now). JoePa is one of our favourites here at FHS and he's been a clutch performer in these playoffs with two big goals to go along with two assists. If the Sharks decide to blow things up in the offseason, Little Joe could be given a much bigger role next season.
Brian Boucher came through with another solid performance last night stopping 30 of 31 Devils shots and he's sitting with a 1.98 gaa & .925 sv% and a 3-1 series lead... crazy.
Not sure what has gotten into Dave Legwand but with three points last night he has 1+4=5 in the first three games of the series... this from a guy with another brutal 38 point season who only had 1+4=5 over the final 20 games of the regular season.
At the U-18s, the US advanced to the semi-final with a 6-0 win over the Czech's as Jack Campbell only had to make 11 saves for the shutout. He's leading all goalies at the tournament with a stellar 1.00 gaa & .958 sv%. The US takes on Finland today and the Russians meet the Swedes in the other semi.
More progress from Marc Savard as he passed some tests yesterday and has been cleared to return to practice... so all he needs to do now is get himself into game shape, so we could see a return soon.
Dany Heatley returned to the Sharks lineup last night but the top guns for the Sharks continued to be ineffective as Heatley, Marleau and Thornton have combined for only four assists so far in this series.
