Hossa suspendable? (not likely)... Fleury not impressing... Pavelski leads... six wins in last 22 for Quick... Alfie played hurt... Niemi plays puck hide&seek
Marian Hossa was the hero yesterday for the Hawks with the OT winner to put them ahead 3-2 in their series... but we wouldn't get too excited Hossa fans as he took a 5-minute major at the end of regulation for pushing Dan Hamhuis from behind into the boards and if the NHL wants to be consistent (which they don't) then Hossa could be looking at a suspension... stay tuned but expect him to get off somehow.
Two more points from Dave Legwand yesterday and he's had multi-point efforts in all the odd numbered games of this series and zeros in the rest.
The Penguins dispatched the Senators last night in six games and while MA Fleury stood strong winning the last two in OT, he finishes the series with a pretty ripe .890 sv% and gave up four or more goals in three of the six games... we still think this is going to be the downfall of the former champs eventually.
Another nice game from Joe Pavelski as he had 2+1=3 including the game winner part way through the 3rd to eliminate the Avs. This gives JoePa 5+3=8 in his last five games and he's emerging as the leader of the underachieving Sharks through the first round.
We were just joking yesterday when we insinuated that the Kings should call up Jonathan Bernier and insert him into the lineup in place of Jonny Quick but there were rumours that they were actually considering it, although probably not too seriously and they decided against it. We'd give it some thought as although Quick's been the man all year, he does only have six wins in 22 games since the Olympic break.
The Wild have signed another college free agent, Jarod Palmer out of Miami University, his 18+27=45 in 44 games this year looks nice but don't be fooled as a season like that from a 23-year old senior whose career to that point is nothing special, doesn't bode well for his long-term fantasy prospects.
With the Senators eliminated it was revealed that Daniel Alfredsson had been playing in the playoffs with a torn stomach muscle... sounds uncomfortable but he still managed a point in every game of the series and 2+6=8 in total.
Denis Grebeshkov returned to action for the Predators after missing the past 21 games with an injury in the groin region... he looked refreshed as he had two assists in only 11 minutes of action.
Brad Richards had surgery on his hip and rehab is expected to last two months so he should be back to 100% for training camp.
What's distracting us today? Great video from yesterday of the search for a puck that vanished into the vast abyss that is Antti Niemi's padding. After shaking everything out and linesman Mark Shewchyk getting into Niemi's pants (literally), who else but wonderboy Jon Toews casually pulls it out from under Niemi's jersey.
