Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Apr 4th, 2010

Dosage Express
Halak-attack... McElhinney can play, imagine that... Gilbert, Cogliano & Comeau worth looks for next week... Gonchar returns... Thornton should return... sobering reality for BUSHKORN

Daily Diarrhea

Light night for scorekeepers as despite there being 11 games last night, the most goals by any team was four and seven games had at least one team score a goal or less...

Halak Jaroslav Halak shutout the Sabres last night, that's blankings on back-to-back nights and he's been pretty much unbeatable lately... he's arguably been the hottest goalie in the league over the past month (Rask & Rinne may dispute this) with a 9-2-1 record, 1.68 gaa & .937 sv% over his last 12 games.

A tender who's also been impressing lately is Curtis McElhinney with the Ducks... this will come as a surprise to anyone associated with the Flames who decided that this guy wasn't worthy of ever playing for them... he's 5-0-1 with a 2.10 gaa & .931 sv% in seven games with the Ducks, including starting the last five in a row.

Two more assists for Tom Gilbert last night and he has 2+6=8 with a plus-8 in his last seven games... get him in your lineup next week as the Oilers play four games.

We don't often recommend guys with 25 points on the season but if you're in dire straights and need a Cman for next week, then give Andrew Cogliano a look as he has 4+7=11 in his last 12 games and the Oil have the aforementioned four games next week to close out the season.

Kovalchuk Things started a little slowly for Ilya Kovalchuk in the swamp with only 5+7=12 in his first 16 games with the Devils but he's been great lately with 4+7=11 in his last seven as he seems to be gearing up for the playoffs... how he does in the playoffs?... nobody knows.

Sergei Gonchar returned after missing the past four games with a sore throat and he made an immediate impact with a PPG and an assist.  This scout needed this as I put him in my lineup this week figuring he wouldn't miss the whole week with a little tickle in his throat.

Blake Comeau only has 34 points on the season but with 4+2=6 and a plus-5 in his last three games he could be worth a pickup for the final week as the Isles play four times (although its a tough week with MTL, NJ & PIT x2).

The Avs signed dmen Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen out of BU... we're really high on Shattenkirk as he's been a consistently productive player with the US NTDP and in the NCAA, maxing out at 7+22=29 in 38 games this past season.  He should find an immediate spot in the Avs lineup next year and could be their #1 guy on the PP.  Cohen is more of a trigger man, as evidenced by his 14 goals (and 30 points) in 36 games this past year but he'll probably spend some time in the AHL next year fine tuning his game.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Thornton Joe Thornton looked good at practice yesterday and as long as he can handle the morning skate today he should be ready to go for tonight's game in Denver.

Bryan Little was forced out of yesterday's game early after running into the boards... he has a LBI and will be re-evaluated today.

Chris Kunitz left yesterday's game in the 2nd period, not sure on the injury or the extent.

Kris Russell suffered an arm/wrist injury on Thursday and it kept him out of last night's game... it's possible that it will keep him out for the rest of the season.

Barret Jackman sat out last night's game due to a UBI, don't know how long this will keep him out.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Evander Kane, Erik Ersberg, Sergei Kostitsyn, Geno Malkin, Paul Kariya and Carlo Colaiacovo.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  This video is a few days old but it's BUSHKORN and we can't pass up showing you the moment this crazy knucklehead realizes the Leafs aren't going to win the cup this year.
