Dosage Express
Phaneuf to get a letter... Backlund re-signs... Peters to be #2... Bouchard moving slowly... "He's so wasted"... more Bushkorn

Daily Diarrhea

Phaneuf Ron Wilson hinted at this a long time ago and it's expected that the Leafs will name Dion Phaneuf their captain next week... wow, good luck with that.  How will this affect his play?... who knows, but it will probably give his giant ego a boost and maybe he'll play better with more confidence... it can't get much worse than last year where he had the worst season of his career with only 32 points and his numbers were actually worse after the trade to Toronto.

The Flyers have re-signed 28-year old Swedish goalie, Johan Backlund to a two-year deal.  They already have Brian Boucher signed for next year and will likely either re-sign Mike Leighton or sign/trade for another goalie over the summer so Backlund will probably be stuck in the AHL unless there are injuries... but then again, this is the Flyers and when it comes to their goalies, you just never know.  Backlund did ok in the AHL this year but doesn't look like anything more than a depth goalie to us.

The Canes have said that they won't be re-signing Manny Legace and that they're looking for Justin Peters to be Cam Ward's backup next season.  Peters had a nice season this year with 26 wins, 2.54 & .917 in the AHL and racked up six wins in nine NHL games as well.  Ward should handle a heavy workload (65+ games) but if he runs into injury problems like he did this year then you could see a lot of Peters this year... which given that the Canes are rebuilding might not be a positive for your fantasy team.

Bouchard_PM PM Bouchard has been given the OK to begin "light" workouts, like going for walks & riding a bike... he's had these concussion problems going back to March of 2009, so as you can see, he's progressing very slowly and we wouldn't be counting on him to be ready for the start of next season. [more]

Hershey won in OT last night to take a 3-2 series lead over Texas in the Calder Cup finals... AHL scoring machine Alexandre Giroux had the OT winner, giving him 64 goals in 89 AHL games (regular & playoffs) this year, which is nice but doesn't touch the 75 in 91 games that he put up last year.  He had nine games with the Caps this year but only managed to pot a single goal and only has four in 31 career NHL games so don't be expect to see him lighting it up in the show next year.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?

- There's a million Blackhawks Stanley Cup parade videos out there so we'll spare you from those, except for this one, just for the crowd's reaction when Pat Kane starts talking and you can hear people in the crowd laughing and saying, "He's so wasted"... attaboy Kaner.

- This scout has a new golden rule in life, it goes something like this... "When in doubt, look to Bushkorn"... in this episode the Leafs superfan offers his congrats to the Hawks on winning the Cup but just ends up depressing himself about the Leafs but then bounces right back with his prediction that the Leafs will end their drought in 2011.
