Daily Diarrhea

HEADS UP... alright fantasy freaks, the 2010/11 Fantasy Scouting Report hit the shelves Aug 31st (and updated Sept 9th), so get yourself a copy & win your goddam pool (like these glorious dudes)

Staal_Marc The Rangers & RFA dman Marc Staal made a deal yesterday... this officially puts the Rangers over the cap and people seem a little caught off guard that Redden might be sent to the AHL to clear space... it's pretty much a sure thing people, so get used to it if you were expecting a bounce-back year from Redden.  As for Staal, he's not a fabulous fantasy option but he had a decent 27 points last year, was a plus-11, plays a ton of minutes and never misses a game... so he's a nice & steady depth guy for fantasy GMs.

New Devils coach John MacLean is guarding his potential line combinations like they're the Caramilk Secret but he did crack when discussing Patrik Elias as he says that he's definitely going to line up on LW this year.  That makes him third banana behind Kovy & Parise and means he's probably going to line up with Zubrus/Arnott & Rolston/Clarkson... add in his age & fragility and we're souring.

There's also some talk of position shifting in St.Louis as coach Davis Payne says he's going to start camp with Andy McDonald back at center & David Backes at RW.  This would slide both these guys back to their original positions and should help them as they both look to bounce back after off-years.  They teamed up with TJ Oshie to form the top line last year and could re-form with Oshie moving to LW again this year or it could mean a reunion for McDonald with RW Brad Boyes... we shall see.  The Blues have a lot of nice talent and one of these years its going to come together... we're getting on the bandwagon early. [more]

More rookie league heroes from last night... Jordan Caron had a hat-trick for the Bruins in a win over the Islanders.  He's a big body but doesn't project to be a big scorer in the NHL (he's ranked #131 in our Fantasy Prospect Rankings) and looks destined for at least a season in the AHL.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?

- Phaneuf just got a whole lot less scary after this interview by NHL.com.

- Puck Worlds with a everything you always wanted to know about the SM-Liiga (Finland's Hockey League) but were afraid to ask.  Did you know their championship trophy is called Kanada-malja, or Canada Cup?

- Mike Brophy with 10 players he expects to rebound... we like them all except for Drury and Horcoff.  Still 8/10 is pretty good.

- Favourite sport (hockey) + Favourite show (Always Sunny in Philadelphia) = super excited

- Sticking with the boob tube... .another show this scout is lovin' is Mad Men, starring the awesome Jon Hamm.  Hamm is a big, big Blues fan.  This is from a while back but worth another look as the Oshie reference gets him a lot of brownie points here at FHS.
