Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Sept 8th, 2010

Dosage Express
Bonehead of the Week to Sheppard... Halpern provides competition... Mason drop 12-15... Wellwood to desert... the Sabres new 3rd jersey (maybe)

Daily Diarrhea

HEADS UP... alright fantasy freaks, the 2010/11 Fantasy Scouting Report hit the shelves last week, so get yourself a copy & win your goddam pool (like these glorious dudes)

Sheppard Bonehead of the Week Award goes to the Wild's James Sheppard as he hurt himself in an ATV accident and is now out for 3-4 months after knee surgery... not good for a kid who was coming off a 2+4=6 season last year and was looking to salvage his career this season... this probably writes off his season, we'd drop him if you haven't already.  On the brightside, with Sheppard out of action it increases the chances that a young player like Casey Wellman can make the team out of training camp.

The Habs signed UFA forward Jeff Halpern to a one-year deal... he had 19 points last year and the salad days when he put up 40+ points look to be behind him, so he doesn't have any fantasy value but his signing could impact a few guys like Dustin Boyd & Lars Eller who were thought to be contenders for the #3C role but now have some more competition.

We don't put a lot of stock into stories like this cause you're going to hear a lot of them but... Steve Mason has shown up for camp in great shape having lost 12-15 pounds in the offseason and says he really worked himself hard over the summer.  We don't automatically think this means Mason is in for a big season but it's a good sign that he's taking his job seriously.  [more]

The Coyotes have invited Kyle Wellwood to training camp on a try-out basis... he's averaged 26 points over the past two seasons with the Canucks and will be fighting for a similar role with Phoenix.  This could be some insurance or motivation for Martin Hanzal to sign.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?

- Yesterday we told you about those crazy Dan Ellis tweets.  Today the fallout.  The fantastic Don't Trade Vinny lists their reasons Ellis might be in financial trouble and now one of the best hashtag's ever: #danellisproblems (Puck Daddy has some of the best).

- Here's the lineup for this year's Battle of the Blades... if you like that sort of thing.  We don't, but at least now we know who to stroke off the 'cool former players list'.  Theo you're no longer cool.

- Rumours are circulating that this is the new Sabres third jersey.  Not too shabby.  They are not official yet, they were posted by a guy named 'HisDudeness' on HFBoards... not the best source.  Head over to Die By The Blade to check out all the details.
