Milan Lucic had the Gordie Howe Hat-Trick last night and if that wasn't enough he also chipped in with a plus-2, three shots and the GWG... so a sweet fantasy night for Looch. He's off to a great start with points in all four games so far and goals in his last three but he only played 10 minutes last night. We like the kid but are not very high on his fantasy upside as he doesn't shoot the puck enough, will likely miss Savard while he's out and has bad luck with injuries himself.
Roberto Luongo was pumped last night for six goals on 18 shots through two periods before getting yanked and he's given up 14 goals over his last three games (all losses). Time to panic and drop him for Schneider???... please. This is par for the course for Luu lately, over the past three seasons his October averages are 2.89 & .902 and then he's flipped the switch in November with a 1.64 & .941. So be patient for another week or two and he'll come around.
I was big on Guillaume Latendresse coming into the season but was a little put off when his coach called him out for his conditioning and relegated him on the 4th line to start the season. We he was back on the 2nd line with Cullen & Havlat last night and responded with a goal & an assist. This guy needs to shoot the puck more as when he does, he scores (14% career shooting %) but he's only had eight through five games so far, hopefully that will pick up now that he's back on a scoring line.
Marek Zidlicky was 1+2=3 last night and it still amazes me that he's only 40% owned in Yahoo! leagues right now. This guy is so consistent, it's crazy. In his six NHL seasons, he's had at least 30 points in every year and over 40 points in five of six. Here's what he's averaged over his NHL career: 77gp, 8+35=43 with 73 PIMs... I'll take that from a guy on the waiver wire.
Tim Thomas got his third straight start last night and shut down the Capitals stopping 35 of 36 shots for another win. He's only allowed two goals on the season so far and Claude Julien will likely ride the hot hand. This is a tough situation for Rask owners but we warned you about this, hopefully you grabbed Thomas as insurance and are reaping the benefits.
The Flames claimed Brendan Mikkelson off waivers from the Ducks and sent T.J. Brodie to the AHL. Mikkelson's not worth a mention but Brodie is a kid who impressed in the pre-season with four goals but he wasn't able to keep that going when the real games started... he should be back up when the Flames have some injuries on the blueline.
