The telegram informing Alex Kovalev that the season has started must have arrived yesterday as he had 2+1=3 last night after only one assist in his first eight games.  Games like this are certainly possible with this guy but lapses in motivation that last weeks are also quite common... if you're willing to take the good with the bad then be our guest.

Relaxing night for Radim Vrbata as he played less than 10 minutes last night.  I don't believe he was hurt, probably just the coach tired of him not doing anything as he hasn't registered a point since opening day.  At the very least the dude is usually good for some shots but he's only put 17 on net so far this year... poor.

JM Liles broke some bizarre record as he has assists in nine straight games to start the year.  He's a consistently productive player that we sorta like, we like the fact that he's never had less that 30 points in any of his six NHL seasons but are a little turned off cause he typically won't give you much in PIMs, plus/minus & shots.  He seems to be back in Sacco's good graces this year as he's averaging 22:33 in ice-time after being in the doghouse for a lot of last season (averaged 18:27).

Steve Montador had two points and seven shots last night and now has 1+4=5, a plus-7 & 16 shots in his last five games.  He's usually good for the rough stuff (should give you around 100 PIMs) but this level of offense is unexpected as he's never topped 23 points in his career.

Brendan Morrison potted two goals last night and now has 3+6=9 in nine games to lead the Flames in scoring.  We mentioned him the other day and said we were on the fence... well I think we're coming down on the side that he might be a good FA add and in a lot of deep leagues it might be too late.

Milan Hejduk is a guy we've been talking about as a FA add and he kept his hot streak going with two more assists last night giving him 3+5=8 with 19 shots in his last four games... give him a whirl.

Brian Elliott has wins in two of his last three and has allowed seven goals during that stretch so his numbers are getting back towards respectability.  He's still a risky play as the Senators are very leaky defensively... Elliott has faced an average of 33.4 shots /60mins this year.

I'd give Alex Tanguay a look if he's available in points-only leagues as he has points in three straight, 3+4=7 in his last six games and is looking very confident for the Flames.

Ryan Whitney is also not a great option in standard leagues but he is racking up the assists in Edmonton as he had two last night and six in his last four games.

Lubomir Visnovsky, the guy who Edmonton traded to get Whitney is also hot right now with 1+7=8 & 8 PIMs in his last seven games... he's logging a ton of time in Anaheim and is a great option in all leagues.

Danny Briere might be flying under a few radars as people consider him to be a big injury risk but we'd take him as he's an underrated fantasy guy... he has six goals already this year and is on pace to fire 355 shots on net.  In addition he's a fiesty character, who has averaged 79 PIMs /82 gms since the lockout.

We liked Dmitry Kulikov for a breakout this year but he's started with nada for his first seven games and isn't seeing the prime PP time with McCabe & Wideman taking the top unit minutes... something's gonna have to change or it ain't happening for him this year.

Luke Adam was called up by the Sabres to fill in for Rob Niedermayer and made his NHL debut last night.  He played a regular shift and saw 13 minutes of ice-time but is likely headed back to the AHL shortly... he's been tearing it up down there so far.

Nino Niederreiter is guessing that he's going to be sent back to junior after playing in his ninth NHL game tonight... no word if he has inside knowledge of what Garth Snow's thinking.  He has 1+1=2 in eight games so far and could definitely use another season in the WHL.

No Jason Blake for the Ducks last night as he was a healthy scratch... guess his 1+1=2 in his first nine games wasn't cutting it?  Not sure what the Ducks thought they were getting when they traded for him.
