HEADS UP... we updated our 2010/11 Fantasy Scouting Report Monday so if you have a late draft then this is some of the freshest fantasy hockey draft advice, projections & cheatsheets that you can find.

The Oilers are loaning Sheldon Souray to the Hershey Bears... funny how the Caps didn't want their own problem (Nylander) playing in Hershey but they'll gladly take someone else's.  Teams will want to see how he looks in the A before even considering him but we'd bet he finds a new NHL home before too long... be patient... but then he'll probably get hurt right after that anyway.

Also with the Oil, going into camp one of the issues to be resolved was their backup goalie position as both Jeff Deslauriers and Devan Dubnyk need to clear waivers to be sent down... well camp is over and final rosters were submitted and no decision came as both are still with the club.  The two of them (& Khabibulin) looked decent in limited pre-season action and GM Tambellini said, "We'll get this problem solved soon"... not sure how soon is "soon", so stay tuned.

Some interesting projected opening night line combos from Sharks coach Todd McLellan as he's going to start with our boy Logan Couture between Heatley & Marleau and Thornton will be with Setoguchi & McGinn.  This bumps Pavelski back to the 3rd line (with Clowe & Mitchell).  These are surely to change so we wouldn't get too excited or sad but it's encouraging for guys like Couture & Setoguchi for the coach to give them the vote of confidence right off the bat.  Thanks to our friends over at Fear The Fin for the heads up on this.

We mentioned yesterday that it looked like Matt Taormina had made the Devils out of camp, well he was sent down later in the day but the Devils are going with a bare bones roster (for cap purposes) and only have six healthy dmen with the team, so Taormina could be back up for games or when there's a injury... keep an eye on him.

Interesting quote from Thrashers coach Craig Ramsay on his goaltending situation and specifically Ondrej Pavelec (who is the "young player" he's referring to):

"I think one of the goalies will play more... we definitely are going to play each night with a plan in our minds of making this young player be a star. I think he can be."

I like Pavelec and think he's going to be a solid goalie some day but Jay disagrees with me and has a real thing for Chris Mason so we'll be watching this situation closely.  Unfortunately for Pavelec, the Thrashers are probably going to be trash again this year. [more]

Mike Babcock says he'd like to see Jimmy Howard play less this season (10-12 games less, so around 50 games in total)... ahh, while it's possibly that Howard can't replicate last year's success, we have a hard time seeing Chris Osgood forcing his way into 30-35 games.  Ozzie has a .888 sv% over the past two years combined and was a sparkling .837 in the pre-season, so when push comes to shove, we don't see them opting for Ozzie over Howard.

Final rosters were submitted yesteday, so there were a few moves of note but mostly a lot of shuffling and placing guys on all sorts of injury reserves:

  • The Penguins sent Eric Tangradi down the the ECHL for a few hours, just a procedural thing to create cap space and make a roster spot in case of injury... per PensBurgh, he's already been recalled.
  • The Leafs Matt Lashoff was thought be going on the injured list but he was actually waived and will likely be headed to the AHL... no real surprise there.
  • Maxim Goncharov came close to cracking the Coyotes roster but was their last cut yesterday [more]... he'll head to the AHL and we think this kid has a ton of upside (ranked #34 in our fantasy prospect rankings)
