Dustin Brown with 2+2=4 & a plus-4 last night and he's been lighting it up lately with 4+11=15 in his last nine games... come for the hot streak, stay for the peripherals.
Mathieu Garon allowed only one goal on 30 shots to beat the Flames last night and the tide might be turning in CBJ land as he's started 3 of 4 and 5 of the last 8 games. He improved his numbers to 8-4-2, 1.91 & .928 and if he can hold on to the #1 job in Columbus then he could be on his way to a big season.
Boy do the Devils blow... but Patrik Elias shouldn't be ignored as he has 4+5=9 over his last nine games. Give him a look if a frustrated Devils fan dropped him but his plus/minus will hurt you as he was still a minus-5 over his last nine games.
Three straight starts and three straight wins for Antero Niittymaki as he stopped 26 of 27 to beat the Oilers last night. Neither he nor Niemi has stood out this year so starts are just going to be based on who has the hot hand... right now it's Niitty, next week it will be Niemi probably.
Stephane Robidas with 3A and a plus-3 last night and he has 7A, plus-5 & 12 shots over his last five games. His shots are nowhere near where they've been the past few years but he's on pace to put up some nice numbers in points, plus/minus, PIMs and PPPs.
Carey Price is going through a rough patch as he has lost four of his past five and has given up at least three goals in each game... but before you conclude that he's back to being garbage, take a look at the competition he's faced during this stretch... DET, PHI, BOS, COL & DAL. Those are top teams and mostly all top offensive teams, so cut Price some slack.
Olli Jokinen with another goal last night and he has 5+2=7 over his last seven games and he's been getting it done with the man advantage as five of those points have come on the PP.
The Caps Andrew Gordon with his first NHL goal last night (and assist) and he's been a very productive player in the AHL the past few years (37 goals last year) but Hershey has a pretty loaded team and so lots of players can put up big numbers. Gordon intrigues me a little but I'm not sure he's going to get many legit opportunities.
Andrei Kostitsyn has no goals and only 3A over his last nine games and so he was a healthy scratch last night... I would not waste your valuable time with this guy.
Niclas Bergfors was a scratch again last night for the Thrashers and he's been one of those in six of the past seven games. I don't think I'd buy low on him right now as he may be sitting a lot in Atlanta but I'd keep an eye on him and pounce if he gets traded as I think this guy has some nice upside.
The Flames signed prospect Ryan Howse to an ELC... he's a good looking future sniper as he had 47 goals for a low scoring Chilliwack team last year and has 23 in 32 WHL games so far this year.
