Vanek resorts to dive-bombing Vokoun's crotch as there was no way to beat him last night
Vanek resorts to dive-bombing Vokoun's crotch as there was no way to beat him last night

Tomas Vokoun stopped 45 of 48 last night for a well deserved victory.  Here's a weird one... he's 7-2-0 in games where he's faced more than 35 shots and 1-4-0 in games where he's faced 25 or less.  Not sure how you use that, I guess the learning is that you should get Vokoun in your lineup if you think he's going to get shelled?!?

Hopefully you got on at the ground floor with Jason Pominville as he was likely available in a lot of leagues but now has 5+4=9 over his last 11 games... this guy should play at around a 60 point pace the rest of the year.

John MacLean got the axe yesterday and guess who? Jackie Lemaire is back behind the Devils bench again.  Lemaire will probably get these guys playing a little better (they can't get worse) but their season is beyond salvage at this point.  Lemaire's teams are never great offensively but he tends to have a good PP so look for that to improve.

Marty Brodeur welcomed Lemaire back by giving up five goals on 14 shots as they got worked by the Islanders last night (ok, we may have jumped the gun before... now, officially, things can't get any worse).  One other note from Lemaire's first game is that he decided to scratch rookie Mattias Tedenby after 18 straight games in the lineup.

Josh Bailey was the big star for the Islanders as he had 2+1=3 in his second game since his re-call... so maybe getting his mojo back will lead to more production, I doubt it as I don't think he's that good.

Someone dropped Andrew Brunette recently in a deep league that Jay & I are in and we scooped him up... sure he's only on pace for 41 points this year after 61 last year but he's had 3+3=6 over his last seven games and this guy has topped 50 points in each of the past five seasons.

Derek Stepan has goals in three straight game and has himself in a pretty nice groove playing around 18 minutes a night with 7+8=15 in his last 20 games.

Stephen Weiss kept his hot streak going with 2 pts, plus-3 & 2 PIMs last night... he now has 5+6=11 & a plus-5 over his last eight games.

Evgeni Dadonov with 2A last night and he has 2+5=7 over his last five games so it's a nice little start from the rookie.  I liked what he was doing back in Russia but his production in the AHL over the past year & a half kinda turned me off... perhaps I acted hastily.

Jordan Leopold with two goals last night to go with the two assists he had last game.  He's impressed me this year as I thought his first month was just a fluke but he's kept it going and is on pace for close to 20 goals & 50 points.  He's also shooting the puck more than he ever has (on pace for 145 shots).

Evander Kane had a fight & an assist last night and now has 2+4=6, plus-5, 7 PIMs & 16 shots over his last five games.  His point total won't blow you away this year (on pace for 52) but he's turning into a bit of monster as he's on pace for 96 PIMs & 267 shots.

James Wisniewski has been in a real dry patch over the past two months after a strong start and the plus/minus has really suffered as he's a minus-18 on the season... which can be hard for some GMs to swallow.  But he's started to snap out of it as he has assists in four straight games and is a plus-3 during that stretch.

Scott Gomez has 1+7=8 during a five game point streak... so maybe he's waking up after a brutal first half of the season.

Shawn Thornton with two goals, plus-2 & 5 PIMs last night and his hands of stone have turned into magic this year as he now has seven goals on the season and is on pace for 178 shots... pretty respectable numbers for a goon.

Marc Savard dropped the gloves last night and gave his owners a nice present with 15 PIMs but he has only 1+2=3 in 10 games this year, so he looks like he's still searching for his game.

P.K. Subban was a healthy scratch again for the Habs... he had two points and a minus-6 in the six games since the last time he was held out so not sure it really helped him.  Likely Jacques Martin is messing this kid up.
