Pierre McGuire has turned monster into a word that I don't like to use much anymore but I have to steal if back from P-Mac to describe Brian Boyle as he was a monster last night with a goal, a fight & six shots.  He now has 3+6=9, plus-6, 11 PIMs & 26 shots over his last seven games... as Pierre would say yell, "This guy just gets it, Gord".

Was not fully aware of this... Jonas Hiller has been one of the best keepers over the past month, 8-4-2, 1.97 & .940 over his last 14 games, only Fleury & Thomas can make claims to being better over that period.

We got one here for ya... I don't want to speak too early but this guy might be our next Logan Couture... Erik Gustafsson is the name and he's been called up by the Flyers.  He's a smallish Swedish dman who had three very productive seasons at Northern Michigan before signing with the Flyers as a FA this past spring.  In the AHL this season he has 4+22=26 in 33 games, which leads all dmen.  Oh and he's doing this on an Adirondack team that is the worst & lowest scoring team in the league.  I really liked his upside but didn't think he'd see much action in Philly this year as their blueline was so deep but injuries to Pronger & Timonen have provided him an opportunity.

Day #4 of the WJCs... Brayden Schenn followed up his five point game on Tuesday with 4+1=5 yesterday vs Norway.  Everyone will be talking about Schenn so let's talk about how invisible a guy like Brett Connolly has been in the tournament so far, 2A yesterday but those were his first points and he only has one shot so far.  You can see the skills but he's never really shown me much in the numerous times I've seen him play.  Finland took care of the Germans 5-1 yesterday, one player who we have our eye on is Joonas Donskoi, a 4th round pick of FLA in 2010, he has 1+3=4 in three games so far and has put up decent numbers while rising up through the Finnish leagues.

Patrick Eaves with the hat-job last night for Detroit and while he doesn't play that much he now has 6+1=7 over his last seven games.  Many moons ago he was a good looking prospect for the Sens and had 20 goals in 58 games during an impressive rookie season.  Maybe he'll be the next guy pulled off the scrap heap, ala Danny Cleary, by Detroit.

Jiri Hudler with another PPG and two more points last night and that's back-to-back two point games for him so don't let him fall off your radar.

Big fan of Jamie Benn so loving his little run lately with 2+5=7 & 18 shots over his last six games.

I mentioned yesterday that Andrew MacDonald and Travis Hamonic would be getting more opportunities with the Wiz gone... well MacDonald played 27 minutes last night and led the team in PP time (3:35) and Hamonic played a season high 25 minutes and chipped in an assist.  I wouldn't take either of these guys right now in single year leagues (I'd grab Hamonic in a dynasty league) but definitely worth keeping an eye on, especially with dmen being so hard to come by in a lot of leagues.

So I was wrong... the Preds claimed Marek Svatos off waivers, so the Blues lose him... don't bother with him though, dude has talent but dude's a chump.

Sidney Crosby's streak came to an end at the hand of the Islanders... pathetic.

Brent Burns with two points last night and he has 5+4=9 over his last 10 games... he leads the Wild in goals (11), is tied for 2nd among all dmen in goals and among the top 25 scoring dmen (he's 13th), only Letang has more PIMs.

Cam Ward with a 37 save shutout of the Sens last night and that improved his sv% to .927, good for 3rd in the league behind only Thomas & Pavelec.

Two goals for Zach Boychuk last night and that's points in back-to-back games, so maybe he's finding the confidence that helped him put up 3+13=16 in the 10 AHL games before his recall two weeks ago.

Travis Zajac is starting to produce for the Devils as he has 3+7=10 in his last 11 but you still have to worry about the plus/minus as he's a minus-9 during that stretch.

Two goals on eight shots last night for Shane Doan and he's been a beast across the board lately with 5+6=11, 10 PIMs, 7 PPPs & 37 shots over his last 10 games.

Hadn't heard much from Lee Stempniak lately, checked out his numbers... 1+1=2 over his last 15 games.

We had hoped that Brett MacLean would crack the Coyotes lineup out of training camp but it wasn't meant to be, so he went down to San Antonio and did work with 14+17=31 (and 144 shots) in 32 games and got the call to Phoenix last night.  He didn't waste any time doing what he does best by potting a goal on his first NHL shift, attaboy.  Keep an eye on him as they kid can score but I doubt he'll play much and I'd like him a lot more if he wasn't on Phoenix.

The Leafs sent Nazem Kadri down after he could only manage 6A in 17 games and the Sharks shipped Justin Braun off to Worcester after getting their regulars back healthy.
