Daily Dosage - Jan 17th, 2011

HEADS UP: Today is the observed birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. so we have afternoon hockey!... make sure to get those lineups set early (1pm EST is the first start).

Dave Bolland with two goals, including the goal of the night (see video below) last night and he has 4+2=6 & plus-6 during a four game point streak.  He got off to a slow start this year and had some injury concerns but is now 8+8=16 & plus-7 over his last 19 games... just wish he wasn't stuck on the 3rd line, playing with Pisani & Bickell is not where the magic happens.

I'll admit that I wasn't a believer of Ville Leino heading into this season but Jay showed me the light and I thank him.  Leino has 2+7=9 & plus-5 over his last six games and none of those points have come on the PP, in fact he's 17th in the league with 28 ES points so far, a good sign that he's producing without the PP crutch.

This is a bit of an oddity... Teemu Selanne has nine two-point games and one single-point game in his last 17 games for a total of 6+13=19 in 17 games.  So it's literally been two or nothing for Teemu lately.

A few spicy goalie annoucements... Scott Clemmensen is expected to get his fourth start in the past five for FLA (talked yesterday about how solid he's been lately) and the Kings are going to give Jonathan Bernier a second consecutive start tonight and Terry Murray said that he'll stick with whatever goalie is winning.  Bernier hasn't been that great lately but Quick has been pretty bad, so this is a nice opportunity for Bernier.

Marcus Johansson played a season high 22 minutes last night and was on a line with Ovechkin & Backstrom for most the game.  No points last night but he has three goals over his last four games and this is worth keeping an eye on.

Nice evening for Troy Brouwer with 2G (PPG & GWG), plus-2, two PIMs & three shots... the problem, as we always mention with him, is the lack of consistency as he came with only 2+0=2 to show for his last nine games.

Two points for Bryan Bickell last night and while he's not as hot as he was back in December, he now has 8+8=16 & plus-13 over his last 20 games.

Anton Khudobin had the 32 save shutout of the Canucks last night, that could earn him another start but Niklas Backstrom should be ready to go soon so the kid's window of opportunity is closing.

Not sure most of you care (I did pick him up in a deep league a while back) but Jeff Tambellini is back to what we expected... no points over his last 10 games.

Two more points last night for Wojtek Wolski and he seems to be engaged on Broadway with 2+1=3 in four games so far.

Mats Zuccarello joined Wolski & Stepan on the Rangers "top line" last night and chipped in two assists to give him 2+4=6 & plus-4 over his last seven games.

PPA last night for Cam Fowler and he has four of those & six assists in total over his last five games... a pretty remarkable rookie season as he leads all rookie dmen and is sixth amongst all rookies in points.

Toni Lydman: "Come for the plus/minus (2nd in the league at plus-25), stay for the recent surge"... he has 7A & plus-8 over his last 10 games and is Visnovsky's regular partner.

You know what's not hot?... Nikolai Khabibulin, eight straight regulation losses, hopefully nobody has to rely on this guy.

Kurtis Foster was a healthy scratch again last night, second time in six games and he responded by putting up no points in four games after his last scratch.  He's now pointless in his last 13 games.

The Coyotes have called prospect Brett MacLean back up, he had a goal in his only NHL game so far this year.

The Panthers have sent Shawn Matthias down to Rochester... the production is just not there for this kid as he has 1A & a minus-10 over his last 12 games.

Here's Bolland sweet moves...
