The biggest and brightest from the past week in Fantasy Land...
Three Stars of the Week:
3rd Star, from the Minnesota Wild, numero 8, Brent Burns... his 2+3=5 & 15 PIMs last week likely won the week for a few fantasy GMs.
2nd Star, from the Philadelphia Flyers, numero 28, Claude Giroux... points in all four games last week including 4A on Sunday for 1+6=7, plus-6, nine PIMs & 11 shots in total.
1st Star, from the Boston Bruins, numero 30, Tim Thomas... three wins last week and only four goals allowed as he stopped 96.4% of the shots he faced.
Rookie Star of the Week: Sergei Bobrovsky, Phi - after struggling in December, he's re-emerged lately with three wins and a 1.66 gaa & .940 sv% last week... definitely deserves more Calder buzz.
Breakout Star of the Week: Claude Giroux, Phi - he's on his way (76 point pace) to increasing his point total by about 30 points from last year and being the biggest breakout forward in the league.
Breakdown of the Week: Miikka Kiprusoff, Cgy - three games last week and 13 goals allowed although he did redeem himself a little by only giving up three goals (on 44 shots) in a win over Vancouver on Saturday. Honourable mention to Sergei Gonchar for no points, minus-1 & four shots in three games last week... thanks for showing up (barely).
Free Agent Star of the Week (less than 50% owned in Yahoo!): Nathan Gerbe, Buf (3% owned) - received strong consideration for a Three Stars selection as he had a tremendous all-around week with 4+1=5, plus-4, eight PIMs & 21 shots over four games... I think those kind of numbers could help more than 3% of owners out there, so get off your asses people.
