Friday's Daily Dosage - Edler, Dalpe, Nugent-Hopkins...

New, 5 comments

No games last night since it's the All-Star break and even us non-All-Stars get a little break... so through the power of computers we have combined your fantasy news & injury updates into one dosage today...

Alexander Edler will have back surgery and is out indefinitely or maybe 8-10 weeks, depending on who you believe... massive loss there as he's been having a great season and has been on fire as of late.  This leaves a spot open on the Canucks defense for a possible Sami Salo return, assuming he's sufficiently healed his floorball injury.

The Islanders signed Matt Moulson to a three-year extension for $9.4M yesterday... seems a bit steep for a guy who would be a bottom six guy on most other teams but I guess he's in the right place at the right time in Long Island, so good for him.

Two guys who should probably be coming up from the AHL soon are Carolina's Zac Dalpe and the Oilers Teemu Hartikainen.  Dalpe started the year with the Canes and was brought up for another stint in January and he's proving that he's figured the AHL out with 4+15=19 in his last 12 games and he now leads all rookies in points (14+20=34 in 29 gms).  Hartikainen is a promising looking Finn who started slow in the AHL this year but has really come on lately with 3+10=13 in his last 13 games.

With no NHL games last night, I caught up on some Junior games I had on tape, here's a few notes... 37 of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' 62 points have come on the PP versus a player like Ty Rattie who has 18 of his 63 points on the PP.  Red Deer's Darcy Kuemper (a Wild 6th round pick) is easily the WHL's best goalie with an impressive 31-8-2 record and 1.84 & .932 numbers.  Here's one for the future, not draft eligible until 2013, remember the name... Hunter Shinkaruk, he has 31 points in 39 games as a 16-year-old for Medicine Hat.

Ryan Getzlaf has been cleared to start skating next week and is hoping to return to action around Feb 9th.  He's missed the past 12 games with facial injuries.

Pavel Datsyuk has been activated off the IR and is expected to return in the Wings first game after the break... he's missed the last 16 due to a broken hand.

Dallas says that Jamie Benn's injury is to his shoulder and while they don't think he'll be ready right after the break, they're hoping it won't be much longer after that.

Washington got Alexander Semin to re-up for another season, so that helps his fantasy value in keeper leagues as there is no longer the uncertainty of where he might end up as a UFA.  A #2C has to be in the cards for the Caps before the trade deadline and assuming Semin can get healthy, then that should help his value for this season (and perhaps beyond).  Meanwhile, we haven't seen any updates that indicate a definite return date for Semin but it sounds like he should be able to return shortly after the break.

Lots of young dudes have been sent back to the AHL to get some games in this weekend, no real story there.  It will be news if some of them don't get called back up after the break... so stay tuned for that.

One chump who may be heading to the AHL shortly is Ales Kotalik as he was put on waivers yesterday and I don't think anyone is going to touch him.  He has a hilarious eight points in 46 games with Calgary (last two seasons combined).
