Missed this high cross-body move by Hornqvist a while back... nice form
Missed this high cross-body move by Hornqvist a while back... nice form

Patric Hornqvist couldn't score on 14 shots in a game last week but we told you that we liked the message and that the goals would come, well he's had a goal in each of the two games since... so hopefully this gets him going as he's been a disappointment so far this year.

We've resorted to just reporting any developments in the Flyers 3-way goalie brawl, even if we don't know what it really means... Brian Boucher stopped 25 of 27 last night to win in Detroit and he's now 7-1-1 over his last 10 games... does this make him more likely to hold on to his NHL job???... nfc.

A goal and eight shots last night for Alexander Steen to keep his production going as he has at least a point in 13 of his last 16 games (9+7=16).

Quarterfinal day at the WJCs yesterday... Canada beat the Swiss but Benjamin Conz deserved better as he kept his team in the game by stopping 46 of 49 shots, you gotta think this guy gets a look from an NHL team soon... Evgeny Kuznetsov took over the Russia-Finland game late as he scored the goal to make it 3-2, did all the work on the tying goal with some sweet moves (see video below) and then scored the winner in OT... Richard Panik had 3+1=4 for the Slovaks in the relegation pool but two of them were empty-netters and they were playing Norway... so, yeah.

Mentioned a few weeks back that Jay & I picked up Andrew Brunette off the scrap heap in a league we're in recently, I'm a fan of his durability and consistency (but despise the lack of shots, PIMs & plus/minus)... he's done good for us though as he had 2+1=3 & a plus-3 last night and has 5+5=10 over his last 12 games.  Just to toot our own horn here, we are in 1st place in the 14 team league with a bunch of current & former Rotowire writers.

Just for that, have to point out that we totally blew it on Bryan Bickell... I repeatedly told you not to bother with this guy but he had a goal on five shots last night and kept his run going where he has 7+5=12 & plus-7 over his last 12 games.  I thought he'd dry up when Kane & Hossa came back and while he's seen his ice-time drop a little, he's still producing.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 47 of 50 shots to beat the Habs last night and while he's not as hot as he was earlier in the season, he's still been very solid going 7-4-2, 2.64 & .924 over the past month.  All this while facing a crazy workload as he's seeing 34.6 shots/60mins over the past month.

Two goals for Brenden Morrow last night and while he's been a bit disappointing this year (on pace for 50 pts) he's been putting them in lately with 7+1=8, 12 PIMs & 32 shots over his last 10 games.

Was curious what Kari Lehtonen's numbers were up to lately... he's 3-3-2, 2,89 & .906 over his past eight games, not terrible but not great either.

Two points last night for Keith Yandle to extend his point streak to four games and he's been on fire lately with 2+15=17, nine PPPs & 49 shots over his last 14 games to move him up to 7th in the league in scoring amongst dmen.

Shane Doan stayed hot with two more assists last night, giving him 5+5=10 during a six game point streak.

It hasn't been the season we were hoping for from Scottie Upshall but he's either starting to heat up or maybe he's just benefiting from playing with Doan as he has 2+4=6 over his last three games... but he was pointless over his 10 games prior to this and hasn't been given a lot of ice-time this year.

Valtteri Filppula has been kinda off and on all year and he's back on (sorta) right now as he has 3+4=7 over his last eight games.  I think the kid has some upside but I'm not a big fan as his peripherals are usually weak, so this might be a chance to sell him when his value is high right now.

Following up from yesterday... Cedrick Desjardins was sent to the AHL, as a result of Tampa acquiring Roloson.

The Flames sent Mikael Backlund down to the AHL, the first smart move by GM Jay Feaster as he tries to clean up the mess in Calgary... the kid has been a scratch for the past six games and really needs to play.

Here's the slick move by Kuznetsov that I was talking about above (complete with Russian Pierre McGuire on the call... my Russian is a little spotty but I'm guessing he said, "This guy just gets winning, Boris")...
